The BBC is British and CNN is American. They are both completely different channels. Both of them, however, use Reuters and other news agencies in compiling some of their stories, so, very often, you will find many stories which are very similar on both channels, even though the reporter who wrote the stories may be different.

Now don't burst Ted Turner's bubble, I'm sure he'd be really happy to own BBC. :-)

Both of the two channels that you are talking about are channels that cover world news, however they are not the same channel. BBC is a world news network that is broadcast out of Great Britain. However CNN is a world news network that is broadcast out of The United States.
Because of the fact that they are world news networks, the stories that they cover will be very much the same, but the newscasters are going to be people that are from the countries from which the network is broadcast from.

BBC is British and CNN is American. BBC has been around a lot longer than CNN.

CNN and BBC both broadcast in English but their origins are way different. CNN is American and BBC is British (the full name is British Broadcasting Corporation).. Both are based on the different side of the Atlantic and both have international programs. If it helps, the BBC is older than the CNN and they have different owners and orientations. CNN is mostly based on what's happening in America.
In addition, both stations use different variations of English (British for the BBC and American for the CNN but both employ both American and British presenters). They mostly cover America and Europe with some bits from Asia, Africa and other parts of the world.
