dog potty training

I got a new female boxer a few months ago. She always goes potty in the house. She is an inside dog but I take her out in the yard at least every 2 hours. I have another dog, a pug, who has started picking up on these habits. I have had multiple inside dogs before so I know that potty traing is possible. I have never tried the traing pads before. I am not quit sure how you use them or for how long. She used to get up several times a night and go potty but now she can hold it until morning. I have never had a female dog before I don't know if that makes a difference. This is my first boxer as well. My husband thinks we should spank her and rub her nose in it. I am not a fan of that idea. Let me know what you think I should do to nip it in the bud.

just keep on doing what you are doing .. it takes time. I trained my dog to pee and poop in the toilet because he can't get out of the house when I am at work. He did it. are you sure she can go out if she needs to release? is there any opening in the house that she can get in and get out...

Woe the heck did you train a dog to go in the toilet? That would be awesome!

yes because he can't go out when I am out. he is not using the bowl..but he uses the shower part so there is no hard cleaning and I need to wash the floor and that's it pick up his litter.
He's a male dog, but he doesn't learn how to put his leg up in every posts he sees in the house, but when outside he does that.

I very seldom tell anyone what to do, but in this case I have to. I've had boxers, they are my favorite breed of dog in the world. However, they have very strong personalities. I strongly suggest you do not take advice from here and go straight to a site like boxerworld. Seriously, I love these dogs, and have had many different breeds and mutts. But the boxer is singular in mind, intellect and temperment. I don't know what it is. Go to a boxer board and seek help there. because if you rub a boxer dogs nose in poop, it an cause resentment, behavioural problems. They are sweet, playful and awesome, but they can rebel, and that is a top reason you see them in dog pounds. Find a boxer expert. :)

Thanks. Ironic because my dogs name is Rebel. I just bought a large outdoor kennel. I hope being outside more often and for longer she will get used to going ouside, instead of inside.

Congratulations on your new boxer! They are gorgeous dogs :) Please talk your husband out of spanking the dog or rubbing her nose in her business... it's NOT going to help her learn. If you catch her in the act of going, take her outside immediately - even if she is done and doesn't go more outside. She just needs to make the constant association between going potty and going outdoors. Also, I am personally not a fan of training dogs to go on pee pads -- unless you want them to do so permanently. I think it's just confusing to them about which surfaces they can "go" on in the house and which they can't. You could try either crate training or tethering her to you as another teaching tool. Is she very young? If she goes outside every two hours, that's great but is she going out sooner if she has eaten? Some dogs need out anywhere from 5 or 10 to 30 minutes after a meal.
I just adopted my second rescue dog and she came from apartment living where she was trained on pee pads. I want her to go outside like my other dog and, so far, it's working well about 95% of the time. She has the occasional accident indoors but she's only been here about 3 weeks.

What your husband suggests is, and I hate to say it, animal abuse. He may not think so but any qualified animal expert will tell you this. It's also negative reinforcement. Here are two sites that might help you http://ezinearticles.com/?Tips-to-Housebreaking-a-Boxer-Puppy-Fast&id=6040067 and http://www.boxer-dog-advisor.com/boxer-dog-housebreaking.html After your puppy goes outside and actually goes to the bathroom make sure to give her a treat and praise her behavior. This is positive reinforcement. I hope these sites are helpful to you. Striking an animal can create behavior problems in the future. And rubbing her nose in it is disgusting and won't help. She won't know why you're treating her like that. Dogs don't make the same connections that we do.
