Being a stay at home mom I could sure use a little help. With kids and pets in the house all day a small robotic vacuum seems like a good idea. I am not sure if they work or if they are worth the price. I bought a very expensive one for my mother in law a few years ago. Of course she never used it so I can't really ask her. I have to sweep everyday. If I had more energy I would need to sweep at least 3 times a day. Cleaning the same mess over and over everyday gets old pretty quick.

my husband and i asked for one for Christmas, and we love it. We have a lab border collie mix and he sheds horribly, the roomba is able to keep up with it. The model that we requested was close to $500. We have a tri-level house. We start it on the main floor, making sure all of the toddler toys are picked up, and we come home to a pretty much dog free house. It keeps running around for about 2 hours and then re-docks and charges. We still have a small hand held vacuum for the stairs. It does have a cool sensor thing that I can set up and it will not fall down the stairs when I run it upstairs. The dog does not venture up there all that often so there is usually not much hair up there, just getting stuck in the corners.

Here the robotic vacuum seems to be popular. Many people are interested in it. However, I wonder whether it can really work so well. Try to image that there will be quite a lot of little stuff on the floor, especially when you have children. I am afraid that the robotic vacuum will clean up these little things by a mistake. It may cause the damage.

I wouldn't mind it picking up small toys as long as it didn't break the vacuum.

The ones I have seen in the stores are small and more of a novelty item than functional but I am just guessing here. Perhaps someone else that has bought one might say in discussion.
They do seem like a good idea though I understand they act randomly over the area and can miss something. We still have to recharge and with kids and pets it might be chased after for a while. It does makes a noise so mine would only be on when I was away.

I received a roomba automatic vacuum as a gift and I just love it! You can just turn the roomba on, leave the room and it will vacuum for you.
With an automatic vacuum you have to make sure to pick up any things lying on the floor that might get caught in the vacuum. It's especially good if you have pets or kids and need to vacuum several times a day. The suction on the vacuum cleaner is very good and the rechargeable battery lasts a long time.

I think it’s a good idea. I agree that cleaning the same mess several times everyday is very boring and tiring as well. You can try to ask another person in your family for opinion too. Is the price worth it or not, since I don’t have that tool at my home.
