why is it i get the feeling that us humans when we are presented with a choice on the selection of pets, many tend to prefer adopting a male over females? Of course it does not apply to all but for example , if someone asked you to choose a puppy from a newborn litter, 1st question will always be , is it a male or female pup? usually chances are the males will be chosen 1st, more so with kittens, asked to choose, leaning will be towards male kittens 1st unless they have all been taken? and in the real world we are constantly bickering about gender discrimation among us people..Hmmm
if you are looking for a pet what is your inclination on the gender?

I have no preference at all about the gender of my animals, the importance to me is that they are given a loving home regardless of being male or female, we get our animals from animal rescue centres, and we certainly don't care if they are either gender. They either get speyed for a female or neutered for a male, a tom. When I lived with my ex we had four cats, a woman was moving abroad and couldn't look after her two cats which were brother and sister, there was absolutely NO way we were splitting them, so we took both. the other two were a male and a female. I love animals full stop I don't care what gender they are, they all need love.

As for choosing pets, most people decide according to whether they want to have to neuter the pet. Or perhaps the nature of the pet -- whether they want a more aggressive dog, for example.
Personally, I'd have either gender neutered regardless, but not everyone is the same about that.

i prefer to adopt males. you don't have to worry about them having a period or getting pregnant. i will take in a female if i had to, though.

I don't think it is always because of gender discrimination that prompted human to choose male over female first whenever come to adopt an animal like puppy or kitten. The owner may think that having a male puppy or kitten in the house will keep him from having too worry about his pet will get pregnant and produce more kitten or puppy later. He may be reluctant to neuter his female pet to avoid causing pain to her, so choosing a male puppy may be the only solution to his dilemma. Sometime it is quite cruel having to take step denying a female animal from having her own off spring. If i want extra cub later, i may have to choose a female one. But most important factor is that first impression i get from the animal, if it is a cuties, i don't care it is a male or female, i will adopt it, its gender is not important to me.

This is true. For reasons that it would probably be best to discuss with a psychiatrist, my preference is for female cats and male dogs.
Its funny, quite often when I am walking my dog I meet a lot of men with female dogs, a few have male ones, but the male dogs tend to be more aggressive.
Maybe they are an extensive of ourselves, or something strange. Though I don't have a theory on this, I am sure it would be fun to come up with one.

Yes, you are right. Gender discrimination apply on people and animal. In my country, private company will pay higher for men employee than women employee. We will pay higher for male dog than female dog. Yes, gender is being problem in our life. I never consider whether male or female when choose pets.
