In many school teachers punish children physically. It disturb child and may cause some painful disease also. So, teacher should not allow the corporal punishment. But when we see in past we see that some corporal punishment were useful for students to make them active like SIT and STAND etc. What are your opinion about this types of punishment? I am a teacher and I see that some time to handle a child become very difficult.

Physical punishment of any kind is illegal in this country, it has been for more than 20 years. Teachers were worried when physical chastisment was banned, arguing that classes would be impossible to control. Teachers are taught other techniques; engaging interest and enthusiasm for example, not fear of punishment. There are still naughty and disruptive children of course, but a combination of detention, lines and peer pressure usually controls this. A mistake many adults make is to use authority, rather than be authoritative.

The trouble with making it illegal is in some situtations when you have to grab a student to break up a fight they can then turn around and sue you for illegal corporal punishment. The teacher or principal will win but it wil cost them money to defend them selves. The students lawyer often takes the case on a percentage basis hoping to settle out of court and the insurance company will pay and he gets his fee. In one case a Teacher I worked with had a student take a swing at him and he ducked, the student broke his arm when he hit the door frame. The students lawyer stated that the teacher had provoked the student then did not do enough to ensure the students safety there by using corpal punishment to punish the child. That is the teacher should have taken the hit so the student did not get injured and because he ducked he cause bodily harm to the student ie Corporal Punishment. The law suit was for $250,000 but the insurance company offered $10,000 (meidcal bills and inconvience) and the family settled. Had it gone to trial the cost to the insurance company would have been at least $50,000. In the end the student and his parents felt that the student was right in trying to hit the teacher. Nice lesson.

I `m totally against Corporal punishment if you want to punish a student there are always other ways to do so ....... my opinion is if the teacher is good he will know how to handle things without the need of Corporal punishment my hole childhood at school I was punished a couple of times however it was always stuff like not taking the break and doing something for the teacher .... fixing broken stuff and so on these punishments are the type that make a student learn however stuff like hitting and so on they only make the student feel that school is unfair and maybe even hate it and that hate will definitely affect his studies

Yes, corporal punishment should be avoided by all means. It certainly takes the extra time to mend the manners of school children as a teacher but there is no other go. The child that is subjected to corporal punishment develops a sort of dislike for the teacher and hence the matters may go even worse for the concerned teacher in the long run.

Corporal punishment has been illegal in my country since 1967 and I was born in the 70's so I have never experienced coorporal punishment at my school, but my parents and my grandparents have experienced it. They were afraid of their teachers and their teachers often hit them. I am happy that corporal punishment is illegal today, because I don't think that it is the right way to punish the students. In the past there were cases where a teacher hit a student and afterwards the student had permanent health problems. Fortunately we are (usually) able to avoid that situation today where corporal punishment has become illegal. Some teacher still hit their students, but doesn't happen very often and it has serious consequences for the teacher. In a recent a case a teacher hit a female student and the teacher has been fired and he has also been reported to the police.

PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT SHOULD NEVER BE USED AGAINST ANY CHILD, ANIMAL OR PERSON!!! I don't understand why humans believe that beating the kids, the wifes the pets will lead to any good. There are other education methods. An abused child will be an unstable adult which will beat his kids because he was educated this way.

I was a principal in a school when our state passed a law that schools could not use corporal punishment. The attitude of some of the students was you could not do anything and they could do what they wanted. I never used it but did see a change for the worse when the law was passed.

I agree that sometimes, punishment is needed to discipline a child. But not too harsh punishment, and your punishment must not defeat its purpose of disciplining the child
