When I travel by bus in my country I often have to stand in the aisle but fortunately I am from a small country and in most cases it takes less that 8 hours to arrive at our destination. Around christmas and the other holidays public transportation is especially crowded because many people want to spend the holidays with their families from other parts of the country. I hate travelling just before christmas when the trains and busses are so crowded that you almost can't move your body. The trains on the main line are usually the biggest problem because they connect most of the major cities and towns in my country.

Hello Porcospino. There were a few times when I could not get a train ticket traveling all the way back to my hometown. It is hard to imagine to stand all the way for more than sixteen hours on the train, especially when our holidays come like the Spring Festival. Now with the improvement of the railway bureau in selling tickets, we can buy tickets online. So I don't have to stand all the way on the train any more. If there is no seat tickets or berth tickets available, I won't buy a ticket. I prefer and always try to get berth tickets in the first place to make sure that I can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable trip on the train.

I have never experienced standing in a long-distance bus traveling to my destination, but I have the experience of standing in a bus in the city only from one bus stop to another bus stop. I don't like to stand all the way in the bus if there is a seat because I get a car sick very easily. So I love to take a car or bus when there are seats available unless there is no seat.

Around here, I am not sure they would allow this for that long. I know during the busy times, it does happen on the buses and train transit system. It can be a pain when this happens and many times if I can, I wait for the next one instead of having to stand. Would be nice if they could plan ahead for the busy times better to prevent things like this always happening.

In my country, it is also difficult to get bus and get a comfort position in Christmas, New year or other holidays. I often experience this condition when I come home to my province. I think it is common, because most people want to celebrate the holidays with their family in other province. Yes, we have to be patient.

I have never tried standing all the way to the province but I have tried standing until somewhere in Nueva Ecija. My province is in the northern part of the Philippines. I don't recall why I haven't made reservations that time but I vividly remember that it was raining that time and I don't have a bus reservation and there were a lot of passengers waiting. Luckily, I was able to go into a bus where there was someone who is getting off in Nueva Ecija and I was able to seat for the next 5 hours of my journey. I promised myself that I will never ever be a chance passenger again. If I really can't go home, I'd rather stay in the city alone rather than suffer the discomforts of travelling on a standing position for grueling 10 hours.
During peak season, bus companies usually start accepting reservations 2 weeks before unlike during regular season. I usually mark it on my calendar so that I won't forget to fall in line on the first day of reservations. Or, you can befriend someone from the ticketing office. Though they can't help you per company policy, it pays to know when their schedules are.

Haven't experience it yet, just only for 2 or 3 hours, if i'm eager to be home for some event or occasion, i'll sacrifice just to be home, and i think you can't feel the tiredness because your intention is focused on going home. Maybe i'll wait till a seat is vacant.

yes. when I was visiting a city during my vacation I had to stand all the way back. This is very disappointing and tiring. the govt must provide more seats for the buses.

Well...standing on the aisle could be very comfortable - I have witnessed people sit on the carrier with the luggage!!!

When we were still little, times we really hard for my family financially and so we can't afford to have our own car. When we have to visit our grandparents in the province, we have to ride the bus. And most of the time, we have to stand all the way. But it wasn't that bad because its only 2 hours away from Manila. As a kid, it was fun but now that I think of it, I am glad that I never get to experience that anymore. It was really uncomfortable plus I can just imagine how stressful every trip was for my parents with 3 kids in tow.

Once, i had to travel in standing position for around 6 hours i.e. 500 km. I feel ashamed to ask people for a sit, so normally i prefer to stand, if i dont have a reserved sit.

i travel everyday for 2-3 hours in a bus to goto school and come back. and I rarely get a chance to sit on a seat. Most of the times i can bearly stand beacuase of the rush in the bus. Its too hard to travel from my area to the city. each and every bus from my area to the city is filled with people so i wont have any other option to take the bus which comes first. well, things are like that ;)

Well I would have planned an early vacation to avoid the jammed up standing ovation in a public vehicle. To avoid all of the hassle. But given the most hectic schedule, I'll definitely wait for another bus just to get that comfortable seat!

In my country it is against the law to have standing passengers in buses that go out of town. But we do have people standing in thhe buses that take you from one place to the other within the city.

This I did a lot in my teens up to my 20s. I did not care in my travels, I was just so spontaneous. Bus reservation was not the thing then in the Philippines. Now it is but not in all provinces. Reservation can't also be made via phone call or does it work like this now?lol. I am just 30 but I didn't live there for almost 5 years now so I am not so sure of how it is.:)

Oh yes i have also encountered such problems many times whenever my bike was out of order. Trust me it is the most terrible feeling in this world to stand in a bus with so many people around u, it just makes u irritated to the core but then there are also some people who travel this way on a daily basis, i feel extremely bad for them.

All the time here in Mexico. As bus travel is very cheap here. Many choose to use it here. And some men are dawgs here and dont let the ladies or the older people sit down. We have to stand. Very sad..
