I often heard my friends sharing this joke whenever summer came and the warm weather started to be felt in our place. So now since I can feel the warm weather again, I remember them and really, it makes me smile. How many times had we planned of going to that place? But until this time, I was not able to go there yet. I know summer time is the perfect time to visit Baguio as the place as a cold weather. Well, hopefully this year. Summer is the perfect time to plan our vacation because aside from the good weather that we have, this is also the time when children are on vacation. so, where do you plan of spending your vacation this summer? Have a wonderful day everyone!

Baguio is no longer as cold as it used to be especially during summertime. With the crowd of people going to Baguio in the months of March, April and May, not only does the temperature get warmer but the visitors face the same scenario similar to Manila - Traffic. After the big earthquake of July 1991, many entrepreneurs joined in the development of Baguio to become a bustling city as it is now. Gone are the open spaces where pine trees used to grow. In its place are the condos, hotels and apartment houses. During my student years in Baguio, we would climb the mountains and enjoy nature. By 3 PM there was fog all over the place. I really miss the Baguio I used to know in my teens especially those hiking trips to Camp John Hay.

Yes some old time visitors noticed that as well but I think comparing it with temperature in Manila they are still far more cooler. I see the difference of 10 degrees lower is really a big difference already. It has been decades ago when I last visited the place and this weekend would be my chance again to see how the place has changed since I last visited it.

I do not have any plans for vacation these two years. My son is in the college and needed a lot of money. So, I need to save the money for his study. He will be graduating in 2014. Perhaps I could plan for a vacation after his graduation!

Hi emily! There are times when we need to set aside plans for vacation because of other important things. Last year we were not able to go to a vacation because I also had to spend on my training. Well, what is important is that we are with our family. Thank you for sharing!

Summer season is also going to start soon here in Delhi, so I would request you that you also take me to Baguio so that I could escape the heat. It is not a bad idea to visit a colder place during summers, however, after spending some days, one is required to return to the same place, is not it? So it would be better to condition our minds to bear the heat.

Tuned in to the news last night, Baguio area is suffering from heat, too, and water is scarce. Baguio was once pristine and beautiful, now it is smoggy and dirty. Many pine trees had been cut for commercial purposes, like SM mall replaced a pinescape. But yes, Baguio remains the summer capital and I do hope I could visit it again.

Hi eileenleyva! That might be because of the continuous commercialization of the place. Anyway, I still want to visit the place on of these days. Thank you for sharing!

Baguio is not the Baguio that I have known from the 60' to the 70's, the city use to be small and so was the population, no malls or condos! There use to be lots of pine trees and it was really very cold, guess they have to cut that to give way to progress. I went there during the the 80's and the 90's and every time it seems to degenerate ecologically, ( no offense to peoples living there) we use to go there every summer when i was a kid in my dad's 6 cylinder Oldsmobile, deep inside i would not like to go there anymore cause i would just be comparing what it was to what it is now, but for the younger generation, think it would still be fine, at least better than metro Manila during summer time.

You are perfectly right. Baguio is totally different now than when it was decades ago. Do you remember the sweet smell of the pine trees as you approaching the zigzag roads? Do you recall how beautiful Kennon Road was back then when it has not yet succumbed to landslides?

Hi louie and yahnee! Thank you for dropping by! I haven't been there so I cannot compare the previous Baguio from the present one. Nevertheless, I will still have to visit the place so that my family could also experience the difference and to be able to see other parts of the country. Have a nice day to both of you.

@yahnee, YES my parents spent their honeymoon in "old Baguio" OMG it was such a beautiful place back then ( still beautiful to people who do not yet know or was not born during those times). Gasoline was only 1 peso per liter back then so my hard working father and us could afford do go to BC even on weekends on our 6 cylinder American car, we have a contact family whose family name i can still remember to this day and we rent their place every summer, very cheap when it's already like a small mansion compared today , a real old house that looks haunted LOL! My father speaks fluent Ilocano and Pangasinense so we got all things cheap cause we were not treated like tourists, I even spent my 3rd birthday in Baguio, hope i find it and post it here, great times, Philippines was really rich! Yes no land slides, not just the smell of pine but you can pick pine cones everywhere! Aries, better see it now and hope the place does not deteriorate just like all the places around the world due to climate change, take time out, yes friend. really fun in the Philippines!

here in metro manila, people just spend the whole day at the malls. you can go to a different mall every day. tagaytay is nearer than baguio.

Hi hereandthere! That can be a good alternative, he he. Well, anyway if I will not be able to go there, either I might not have enough time or no money, then I will try to visit the mall to enjoy the cold temperature inside. But I still want to go to Baguio if ever I have the chance. Thank you for sharing!

yeah, they just go to stay cool, window shop, people watch, spend as little as possible. at the food court you see people having meetings, working on their laptops, reading the papers, even sleeping inspite of the noise! if you ever make it to baguio, be sure to announce it here so you can hook up with mylotters based there.

That is exactly where my family will be going to this week end. We realize that it is not really comfortable experiencing this hot weather we are having here in Manila. So for the next couple of days we are set to be there to feel some comfort from the fine temperature they have there and also enjoy some places to visit there.

Yeah I hope the weather would be fine since I consulted a weather forecast site and they predicted that on the days that we would be there the weather would be a bit wet in the afternoon. Oh well I hope it would not dampen our trip there. But still that are just prediction and there is still a chance that it would not happen at all just crossing my fingers on that.

Hi there Aries1973! I have seen pictures of the place but that's about it. In my thirty years of existence, I have never been to Baguio though I would love to visit the place. It is perfect when you're fed up with the heat of Manila during summers. What we did before was spend a day in Tagaytay. It's cold there, though I cannot really compare the temperature with Baguio since I have not been there, but it's cheaper. Tagaytay is also a beautiful place and there are a lot of nice sights.

Hi nanayangel! So I'm not alone, he he. I don't think we could still make it this summer. My son enrolled in a speech improvement class in preparation for the coming year. He will be on his third year in college and they be preparing thesis during that time, so he needs to improve his writing and speaking ability. I still hope that we could make it some other time. I really love to go to that place. Thank you for sharing!

It's been a long time since I visited Baguio that was two and half years ago. I miss the place as well. It was really cold when we had our vacation at Baguio. It was in the mid of the year, I think around July, it was raining but it did not stop us from exploring the city and having fun. I really hope, I can visit once again this beautiful cold city.

There is a 2 weeks school holiday break here in Malaysia during summer too. Most of the people like to go to the cooler area like up the hills. These three places namely, Fraser Hills, Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands have nice cool air and weather, with beautiful landscapes. I hope you will have a great time this summer. Is Baguio an island or hills sides? Thanks :)

Baguio City is one of the few places in our country blessed with cool climate. It is located at the mountainous region of Cordillera. However, based on the sharing of our friends here who have been to the place before, they said that it is a different nowadays because of the commercialization of the place. The original climate was already gone. I don't know because I never been there. Thank you for sharing! I hope I could also visit other countries.

It weren'nt summer when i went to Baguio 2 times, courtesy of my sister-in-law who is now in Australia and one is by my sister. Thus, it was so cold there when we went. One was december since a picture shows us in a restaurant with a fireplace. Indeed, it would be so nice to go to Baguio on summer time, to at least feel a cool ambiance, rather than the very hot climate. But one need to have enough money, to do that.

Hi simplyD! I just hope we that I could be able to save some amount that we could use during the travel. Well, if not now maybe some other time. As of now my children enrolled in summer classes so I don't think we can do it this time. I just allowed them to do extra activities during this time rather than staying in front of tv and computer the whole day. Have a nice day!

I remember when I visited the Philippines I thought it was only warm. I loved my time there. The tropical climate there didnt make me think it was real hot though. I think the philippines get enough moisture that rain keeps the temperatures from getting outrageous. I have lived in a desert and didnt really like the hot summer days there but the winter nights was ok as I didnt have to deal with snow or ice. I would love to be able to vacation there in the Philippines. As I like the weather there.

@ Elvis: Actually, the weather during summer was bearable before as it was not as hot as it was during these past few years. My place of residence is also a good place but my place of work is one that is really hot because of the sea breeze. But there are also place which are colder and one of those is Baguio. Thank you for dropping by. @ rosanna: Yes, that is what other are saying it's a different place now. More commercialized. Thank you for sharing!

its really hot in here specially on summer time but maybe people go to baguio so they can relax and also see more beautiful thing out there baguio is a nice place but now i think its not that much beautiful cause so maybe people destroy trees especially the pine trees :(

If you're in Manila like me, then going to Baguio will take around five to six hours. Plus it is expensive. My suggestion is to go to Tagaytay. It is much nearer than Baguio, plus you won't have to spend that much. The only downside is that unlike Baguio, I don't really know what are the activities that one can do aside from going to People's Park to picnic, zip line and just simply stare at Taal lake. I do have a house in Baguio, but I am looking at going to other places since at this time of the year it is very crowded. I usually go there during the rainy months because very few people go up during that time. One place that I would love to go to which has cool weather like Baguio is Sagada. But since it is summer I can expect the place to be crowded with tourists too.

At my age, I have never been to Baguio! But have been to other Asian countries. Weird, right? So just 2 months back, my sister and I was having a meeting with my dad. And then dad mentioned that he will be having a seminar in Baguio this May. So I told him, I wanted to come and I will bring my kids, too. He agreed to it. Mom is coming along, too! So excited to finally see the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

I wonder if Baguio is still cold as they say it was. I haven't been there for quite sometime. I just had my vacation in Banaue which is higher than Baguio. But the weather up there is hot too... Not as hot as in Manila but I was getting the impression before that it would be below 20 degrees even during daytime. When I was there, I didn't even use my sweaters, jackets and bonnets...hehehe...

same here especially we are in manila and too much crowd adds up to warm climate.I do take a bath 2x a day now.Drink a lots of water.Nothing plans for this summer because going to malls every week is just a normal to us since it only took around 5 minutes to go there.but it is much better to stay there for long since it's hot season. You can feel the difference being in air conditioned room and being at home.So during this summer.I enjoy staying in malls than in home.

Hi gara! I already experienced summer in Manila. I got sick when I was there. It's also hot in our place, in my work place specially because it is near the sea. I also noticed that my skin tone has changed already. But not as hot as Metro Manila. Well, going to malls can really help. Thank you for sharing!

Since I will be working through summer, I never tried to make plans on where to go. It's indeed extra warm here especially in Manila but then there are a lot of things to do which can help divert our attention from the heat. Nevertheless, like any self respecting Filipino that I am, I wish I could visit the Hundred Islands before the summer end. I would probably apply all my unused leaves so that I could go. I know it's crazy visiting a warm place in such a warm weather but then, it's much safer to visit the islands in this weather as compared to the rainy season.
