I know many of my sisters boyfriend family raise and kill small animals this includes rabbis, squirrels, and so on.
I have 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 hamster which his entire family said they would eat them no problem, even after raising them, and breeding them.
I do know they wouldn't treat them as pets, raising them outside, and feeding them very little and crap to make them fat.
I could not have an animal, even outside then kill and physically eat it.

Not everyone who raises animals for food etc treats their animals badly.
I grew up on a farm where we raised cattle, sheep, pigs goats, we had rabbits, cats dogs, horses. The animals we raised for food or sale you learnt not to get attached to. If there were no animals at all raised for food...everyone would be vegetarian.
I have a hard time seeing people eat guinea pigs or hamsters. I know if people who hunt and eat squirrels. Rabbits - there's pet bunnies and then there rabbits that are raised for meat.

Hmmmm... its like Hansel and Gretel story where a witch wants to eat them. She wants Hansel to feed food to make him fat then, she would eat him. Anyway, some people are like that. People have different perception about animals. Like a pig, I saw some family who wants to raise a pig but, not to make them as a pet. They want to have food and so, they raise a pig to eat them.

We will never kill the animals we raise. Since they are not just animals for us, they already become a part of us and they are pets. I feel horrible if we kill and even eat them. We have stayed with each other for a long time, so we treat them like pets already.

I could never raise a animal then kill it to eat. That is just not something I could ever even think about. I have a shih tzu and an African Grey bird and they are part of the family. I can't imagine even thinking of eating rabbits, squirrels, hamster etc... I barely want to eat the meat from the store let alone a pet I raised.

I would never be able to do that. I always get too attached to pets and just the thought of them dying gets me upset so I couldn't imagine raising them just to eat them because I'd think of the time when they were babies and how I raised them.
I do eat meat, but I try not to think about where it comes from and how we get it. I'd much rather keep animals as pets to love rather than to eat.

Me too. In fact I started a discussion some time ago about the possibility of eating your own pet. In my case, i have roosters and hens. I can eat the eggs, but could not bring myself to slaughter them for food. But it is a different story when there is a need to kill the pet. One of my pet hen was badly injured defending its chicks from a dog. I could not afford the treatment fees, which is 10 times more than the price of a hen at that time. I have decided to kill the hen to end its misery.

My adopted mom raises cows. One if the cows has a calf just about every year. She sometimes keeps it to become an adult and then sells it to a farmer or she has it processed for her own freezer. She names them and lives them but she also knows they are food or income. It's her business. She has the mums belt killed before they are slaughtered.
Livestock are different tnan let's but it would be hard for me to do it. My dad couldn't even stay home when his father was killing cattle. Dad would run away. Then dad would get beat.

Actually here at my grandparents' place, we have a lot of native chickens that we raise for eggs and food. However, there is this chick who's now a young hen that became attached to me, her name is Lorie, she's like a pet to me. Me and my 8 year old cousin (he was the name that gave that name to the chicken), told our grandparents that they spare Lorie since she's our pet. No problem with that, but now there are these chicks that became attached to me as well, since they would come to me whenever they hear my signature whistle :), or just simply when they see me. I know they are chickens but I guess I understand now why some chicken owners advice to not name your chickens. Anyway, I guess as long as you give them a happy life, I guess it's fine to have them as food (their intended purpose). Nevertheless, I insist that my grandparents should spare Lorie since she's really our pet :). It will be heart-breaking to see her be killed and be cooked for lunch :(.

That would be cool if those animals were actually farm animals such as chicken, cow or pigs. But considering those animals are commonly pets, then that's the issue there. That is some gruesome activity they have and I also think that can be reported to those advocates of animal rights. What do you think?
