I like cooking simple yet delicious foods. Today, our daughter arrived from Manila, for her school vacation.
She's still sleeping since she arrived this morning, because of her overnight trip.
I am surprising her by cooking her favorite food "Sinigang na Baboy" (Soured Boiled Pork). I put on some of her favorite veggies too.
And i made it sour just as she likes it so much.
Husband will also be coming home from work for lunch in a while , and i know he too will like my cooked dish.
Hmm, i would have to make a dip, of "bagoong" (fish sauce) , lemon drops and chopped chili. Yummy!
It's so nice to have a non-working day today! I was able to cook for my love ones!

How do you make the pork sour? I would very much love to read about this recipe. I have learned a lot of recipes from other places since I am a mylotter.

Well margucha, after boiling the pork in water with salt to taste until its soft, put the chopped tomatoes , onions and bring to a boil until the tomatoes are a bit soft. Then put the veggies such as radish slices , pechay , sliced eggplant among others. When they are half cooked, put the Knorr tamarind seasoning such as what i attached here. Though, there are natural ways to make it sour.
Then taste and season if it's still not according to your taste.

marguicha, some people boil real tamarind instead of using the powdered seasoning, because i know you don't like anything artificial, but i'm not sure if you have tamarind in chile. then instead of radish, some use a root crop called gabi (taro), kangkong, and even winged bean (sigarillas).

That's very nice of you to make your daughters favorite food while she is home. I'm sure it is a nice treat for your husband for lunch as well. I will have to look that up and see what is involved in the Soured boiled pork as I am always looking for something new to make for my family.

It is a good thing to cooking native delicacies. Back here in Nigeria some people like 'ewedu' soup, others prefer 'yakuwa' soup with boiled yam while others found favour with 'ogbono' soup. The list is endless.

Yes, this dish can also be cooked with Yam. I think when one makes a soupy dish , he can use his imagination how the taste will be when different veggies are combined with it.

sinigang na baboy is also my mother's "welcome back/welcome home" dish whenever someone has been away or visiting, but, me, i'm okay with tinolang manok, especially the chicken liver. we use pechay instead of dahon ng sili.
i think the best type of pork to use for pork sinigang is liempo.
when we've run out of patis and i'm eating something that needs a salty dip, i'll see if we have barrio fiesta bagoong first. if none, bagoong isda with kalamansi. they also go well with nilaga and tinola. but no sili! i can't eat spicy food.
so what do you plan to do while your unica hija is home?

Yes , the liempo is the tastiest pork part for sinigang. I think it's the little fats that makes the meat so delectable.
I like tinola too.
Hmm, i am at work on weekdays, but on weekends i can cook her requests , like kare-kare. She loves my kare-kare.

Her laptop !
She corresponds with her boyfriends through Skype. She would also go to my hometown, which is a 30 minutes ride from our city residence and interacts with her cousins, titas and titos and my parents, when she feels like it.

oh, yes, i love kare-kare, too! i hate pork knuckles, nothing but bone and skin! just a waste of money!
she will get to eat a lot of nutritious foods while she's home.
who does she hang out with? old friends? cousins?

I'm already hungry! Kidding..I love sinigang as well. I learned it when I was in elementary. My dad taught me how to cook it and then later on, I taught myself how to cook shrimp sinigang and fish sinigang. Enjoy your food.

Hmm, i haven't tried using green mangoes and santol. In your opinion witty, which one tastes better, the tamarind or the santol or green mango?
I always put sliced tomatoes in my sinigang aside from the tamarind seasoning. I boil it well until its juices blends with the soup. YUmmy!

My favorite dish above all which makes me crave for it now. If I dont have food with me during lunch, I always look for sinigang in the canteen. I always like the one which sourness and spicy is fighting. Hmmm sinigang is really delicious especially the rib part (buto buto).
