800 Euros to transport a dog? Oh my!

I had a project for an exam at my university. I was supposed to do an epidemiological study about Rabies. I also had to to a study about the conditions which have to be fulfilled by a cat or dog to enter England. UK is rabies free and that is why there are certain good rules about taking your furry friend in there. What shocked me was the price. Only certain air rutes and flying companies are allowed for transporting a pet in UK. The most used is British Airways Cargo. Some persons were saying on a forum that to take a small dog from Romania to UK was 800 euro.It is really expensive, considering that for me I can find an ticket with less than 500 Euros. I suppose that when we love our pets we are doing sacrifices!

in my oppion it is not a good way to reduce rabies by making the owner of pet pay so much money)))becacuse it is fair. to reaches this amount is just nothing,so they can keep dogs and cats. but to the poors this amount is so big and they can't afford it))but we all have rights to love dogs and live together with them))this way did't prevent the rabies, but on the other side it hurts some people's rights)))if the state want to reduce rabies, thie best way is to enhance the medical level to beat rabies))))

As I said in a upper comment the price is not actually a measure. It is just that they allow only certain flight companies to transport pets to England and this company is very expensive.

Oh my goodness, the price is really very expensive. I think it would be a very shocking news for all the pet lovers. I know it is being done to avoid any rabbies incident to tae place but it does not mean that they would increase the price to such an extent. I hope the prices would be reduced very soon.

The price is not actually a measure against rabies. It is just that they have strict rules about the companies who are allowed to transport pets. And that specific company which is mostly used is very expensive, compared to other air companies which can deliver your pet. Each company sets her own prices. I believe though that they do offer better safety conditions coming with that price.
