Some of you probably know what Runescape is all about, but I have no idea about it at all. So, this is what I got sent to me to my email address: Dear Player, We have strong evidence that you may have attempted a transfer of RuneScape accounts or traded virtual items outside of the game environment. Realworld trading destroys the economy of Runescape, violates your agreement with us, and any player that continues to engage in the illegal activity has no place in our community. All of your accounts, main and otherwise, are now on our watch list and will be monitored for real-world trading. Regardless of who you are or how long you've been with us, if you decide to real-world trade ever again we will have no hesitation in: (1) permanently removing your account from our community in order to protect Jagex's rights, and (2) possibly naming you as a defendant in Jagex Limited v. John Does, which is a lawsuit based on antitrust law violations that is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. If you decide to ignore this email and instead continue Real-World Trading, we (Jagex LTD) reserve our rights to pursue statutory damages against you for between £200 to £2,500 per act of past, present, and/or future real-world trading in accordance with 18 USC. 1304(c)(2). In addition, new black marks have been added to your Runescape account. If left unchallenged your account may be temporarily disabled. Please complete the following security form to monitor your account's status or to appeal the infractions you have recieved: Please note: If we do not receive a response from you within 48 hours, we will have no other choice than to disable your account. Sincerely, Jagex. © 2013 Jagex Ltd. Jagex® and RuneScape® are registered trademarks of Jagex Ltd in the United Kingdom and trademarks used in other countries of the world. View our Privacy Policy, Terms And Conditions:. St. John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB5 0WS, England. I know that Market Swag was merged with Runescape and I was a member of Market Swag but I have never even visited the website at all since they merged. The funny thing is that the email address of the sender is noeply@mail.runescape.com (note that there's no "r" in noreply). So do you think this is a SCAM? What I want to know is how does this person know that I have an account there (since the merge) or could it be the site owner or company owner is up to something?

This person does not know that you have a Runescape account. It is phishing. Runescape is a .com domain. The form shows a .rs -- Republic of Serbia -- domain.

The email should have gone into my Spam folder but it didn't. It went straight into my Inbox. So I thought they probably got my email address from that site.

#Jlyn Going into the Inbox doesnt necessarily mean that they are Spamming. They have just started out sending such emails and as this is a new thing being done from that email, it will take a while before it is marked as Spam by the email providers.

But the other emails like the ones selling viagra and the enlargement pills all goes directly into my Spam Folder. Are you indirectly saying that as no one has reported it as a spam mail yet and that's why it goes directly to my inbox?

It sounds like a phishing expedition to me and if you respond at all it will give them a door into your identity. Delete this email and do not answer them at all.

There is no reason to be scared... after all... you are not going to lose anything unless of course you have some stakes involved

On the contrary, you could lose a great deal by following the link and filling in the form there. This is quite clearly a 'phishing' mail. It addresses the person generically (as 'Dear Player'); it issues a threat which is probably completely false (since the person is not a player) and it encourages the person to go to a link which has a page which mimics a real Runescape page but is NOT a genuine Runescape URL (it is a .rs - Serbian - address, not a .com address) and is also NOT an 'https://' (secure site), even though the servername is 'secure'. The domain 'runescape.rs' address was first registered in March 2011 and is owned by someone calling themselves "Tony Montana" (clearly after the film 'Scarface'). Doubtless, this mail has been sent out to MANY people, some of whom may be Runescape players and quite a few of whom may actually enter the data required (which will be, at least, their Runescape user names and passwords).

definitely a scam - the bit they want is your personal details which would very likely include your bank account details through which they would drain your account in an instant. You might want to forward the message to Runescape as genuine players might fall for such a nasty scam. I don't play it myself.

I think my account there has been closed a long time ago due to inactivity. I never bother much about it since I wasn't very keen on participating in that site (preciously Market Swag) anymore. I'm surprised that there are people who still fall for these kind of scams.

Yes, but strange that some would still believe what they read.
