How do you know that something you are getting into online is a scam? What are the tell-tale signs of an online scam? have you ever gotten into a program that you thought was legit and it turned out to be totally a waste of time? Anyone remember "dormcheck" total scam..or any other popular scams.. big wastes of time?
When I think back .. I fell for quite a few online promise makers.. like "500cents-500 dollars" . I had reached 500 dollars twice had more then 30 referralls and when i tried to cash out. .the webmaster said " you are no longer a member of this group.. you withdrew"
Doesn't it just irk you to spend so much time and then find out that the owners are just con artists and scammers?

Thanks for starting this discussion. Reading it has confirmed once again that I should not be too trusting. There is always a risk involved but obviously online web sites can be easily turned into scam sites.
I suppose research is our only tool but even then we don't know what all outcomes are going to be down the road. I would love to have site where I was able to pay people but I wouldn't make promises I couldn't keep. I've stayed clear of a lot of sites for the reasons given in this discussion.

Indeed I have a lot of admiration for Mylot in that they stayed so long and so well with their reputation. I have nothing but good wishes for them.
As for starting our own site. Well Franciscan we can be partners in an idea. I have to say from the start, in all honesty, I think it could be done. However you are bery right the collection part is not so easy. But the biggest thing I think would be the volume. Not many people are interested in something that only pays out pennies?

Never heard of him but kind of reminds me of the guy who wrote about business success and shortly after world finds out he scammed his clients, filed bankrupcy and fail to pay taxes for 3 years.. Sometimes he biggest scammers write about what they are worst at ...

As irksome as the con artists are, I think it is equally unbelievable for those who go into these questionable cons. No matter how much warning posts or sites are being created and made available, if people do not want to do their homework then I don't think there's any use while these conman goes laughing to the bank.
I feel we should always remember that there's no free lunch anywhere so when we are lazy to check, then don't fall for a deal which sounds VERY good because there's no such thing as luck and perfect timing when in reality - you are just another person on their list of gullible.
It is important to be careful at all times and when it comes to money always hesitate.

its in the being of a person to think of others according to whats inside one.. if one is honest and caring and loving..the natural tendancy is to think everyone is that way.. if one is a con and cheat and scoundrel..then they think everyone is like that . .its a life lesson and hurdle one overcomes when one realizes that not everyone is honest and caring and loving ..that there are beasts out there ready to gobble up your money and you if necessary to get ahead!

I always look for reviews on sites before I join, I also look for negative feedback and i never say a site I'm a part of is legitimate unless I've actually gotten paid by them.

I am very slow to say a site I am part of is legitmate as well. because it may be for awhile but then it disappears into the sunset without warning.. I know a site is legit once its been around more than five years and people say they have been paid over and over..like here at mylot

Whether online or offline, I will try to understand the business model and how such a setup can generate enough revenue to be able to pay me as much as they claim, as well as any other investors. If I can't understand or agree how it can generate enough then i avoid it. Even if it turns out I am wrong, that is no problem, I just treat it as payment for being able to sleep well and not worry whether I have just flushed my money away.

Hi,
One sure way I can tell a scam from a legit one is when the offer is too good to be true, like getting thousands of dollars in a few days of online work. It is not just true and the glittering promise is designed to lure the unwary, like giving vital information on credit cards or personal data. Things like that, I want to bomb the h-ll out of them who have the guts to lie for all the world to see.

I have quite some experience in getting myself scammed. Generally there are a few tips at identifying whether an online business is a scam or not. For starter, the too-good-to-be-true scenario, When an online business offers you a very large amount of money for little or nothing to do beside investing money in it. It is almost certainly that it is a scam. There is a term for this kind of money game which is HYIP or high yield investment program. They are always a scam.
Secondly, try and read some reviews of other users. These testimonies and reviews are helpful to tell you if an online business is legit. Remember not to read those posted in the business website as they are all self made stories by the business owner.
Next, beware of the multi level marketing or MLM businesses. Most of them are just money game that you pay an amount of money to become member, and you get money from those you recruited as your referral for them paying the application fee and they are going to look for the next victim. These type of business will either close down soon or only helping the business starter to earn money. You need to beware of even those with solid product as some are just randomly picking a product to make the MLM business look like a real business. However, you can try those well established MLM business with variety of solid product and physical outlet. These are quite legit as I have seen some of them doing well for years.
Besides that, you can also check how long have the business been running and paying. Some online scam businesses pays at the beginning but stopped a few months later. A website like Mylot is a good example of guaranteed legit online earning website because it has been on for 7 years and it has never stopped paying the users.

you have to be so careful because there are lots of scam comppanies out there. I earn money online through taking part in online surveys but firstly i always look up the site through review sites to see if its a legit company. I have always find through doing this i havent been ripped off yet but maybe im lucky.

What do you mean by saying even great sites go scam someday? Are you saying then there are really no honest companies?

I agree.. a good search.. Do you do that before joining a program? If someone comes on mylot and says " hey I just found this really great program. .you just have to join it." will you join it just because someone is on mylot saying it's good? Do you always research a program.. or do you jump in without worrying?

I also ever experience the case, my account was blocked. The admin say that I send a spam article, whereas I have sent an article has fit the request of my client, but the admin say that my article is spam. I also feel drop down with this. Sometimes, work online make us waste too much time because we do not know that we have make a mistake in the site.

I stay away from sites that will ask you to pay a price to sign up. I also read reviews about the site before signing in. If the site gets good reviews, I try it out. If more people say it's a scam, I stay away from it. Aside from making sure that a site pays, I also make sure that the purpose of the site is good. I'm not going to work for sites that do something bad.

I know what you mean, but most of the time a scam can be foreseen by just looking good at the site. Layout and text, also look at how much options a site has. Just compare this with other sites, is that particular site far behind others it's more likely that it is a scam.
Scammer won't invest a lot of money in their site, because the change their site will be locked is pretty big. Also it's not sure that people will fall for their scams. Real sites will earn an decent amount of money with their site, so they can change their layout, options and everything else on it.
