Is your manager a leader? If you are a manager, are you also a leader? How do you differentiate manager and a leader?

Hello Hexebella I hope that you are fine. Interesting discussion. A leader know what´s best to do, a manager knows merely how best to do it. Leadership is the wise use of power. Power is the capacity to traslate intention into reality and sustain it. Leaders create an environment in which everyone has the opportunity to do work wich matches his potential capacity. The leader works in the open and the manager in the covert. The leader leads, and the manager drives. Some managers are good leaders. But not all managers are good leaders. HI dainy! Happy to hear from you! Very well said....I wish that those people having a managerial position develop their skills to be a good leader or at least a good manager. God bless!

"Manager" usually is a position you have recieved and you will loose it again. Afterwards, the manager has no power anymore. But, the leader is a leader during his or her whole life, no one can take it off from you. Also, you don't need any position of manager to be a leader, as you can be a leader without any position or charges. So, all leader are able to be a manager too, but not all manager are leaders.

Hello Camomile! I´m pleased to read you. Yes! It´s a great pity when the one who should be the head figure is a mere figurehead. You are not a leader because you have the title of manager. Leadership is something that we earn from followers on a day-to-day basis. Leaders do not waste their energy and attention on matters beyond their control or that are not essential for team success. They are demanding without being demeaning. They are relaxed and confident, while maintaining a naturally competitive personality. They focus positively and aggressively on factors that they can influence and do not worry about circumstances over which they have no control. Positive leaders are able to recognize when pople are doing things well and reinforce the action or behavior.Leaders are either confidence builders or confidence cutters. Real leadership is needed and revealed during times of adversity. Rather than dwell on failures, good leadership highlights talents and accomplishments, provides positive feedback, and in doing so, breeds confident teams. Leaders have a quiet inner confidence, based on readiness and the ability to prepare others. True confidence is gained from productive preparation and is spread by confident leadership. Leaders cannot be afraid to lead or to change when needed. They do not shy away from challenges or responsibility. Leaders go the extra mile for their team. Is not easy to be a real and good leader Blessings Hexebella and Camomile... Dainy

A leader is also a manager but a manager can be a leader or not. For me a leader is the one that can manage people and at the same time can inspire them to do the best for their works. He has concern over the well being of his sub ordinate and will think of a way the could encourage them to do better. When he scold his/her subordinate, he/she do this with compassion. leaders are well loved by his subordinate On the other hand, a manager is someone that only cares about his/her well being. He often scold his/her subordinate without compassion and understanding. And lastly, managers are hated by many of his/her subordinate.

:) This gives a wide grin on my face alone in my room in front of the screen.....yeah, I agree with you...managers just manage what they can do best for whatever resources available with them without looking forward and without checking if the team is heading the right direction. Unfortunately a lot of so called managers in most organizations are like these and the team members are the one suffering.

Well, where I am working, our manager isn't a leader. I think if he would leave, nobody would remember him for what he did. A leader is always remembered, that's one of the differences. A leader is a co-worker able to give quick solutions to problems and has influence about other persons. The collegues recognize the leader and follow him or her. Usually, he or she does his or her work well, efficient and if a problem appears, he or she doesn't wait until a manager tries to resolve it. The leader looks for solutions and has got a positif attitude. That's why people like the leaders.
