I've been to a few Civil War battle reenactments, especially with the sesquicentennial going on and living in VA where most of the fighting took place. I find them very exciting and usually have two cameras blazing -- one shooting video and the other taking stills. It is also interesting to wander through the Confederate and Union camps which the reenactors set up as very authentic.
This year is the sesquicentennial of the Battle of Chancellorsville (I will be there) and the Battle of Gettysburg. (I would love to go to PA for this one, but I think work is going to interfere. Bummer!)
Any other spectators here? Or perhaps... a reenactor?

Admittedly I have an advantage living in VA where so much history took place, not just the Civil War.
I like going to living history programs too. I met George Washington on Independence Day at his boyhood home at Ferry Farm one year. I remember babbling and grabbing his hand and shaking it and saying "I've heard SO much about you! I'm glad to finally meet you!" Of course, he reacted very reservedly and courteously, because women just did not act like that.
The reenactors, especially the ones who play famous men and women, stay very much in character and they know their history.
Me? I'm like a little kid at these things -- especially when I get to meet a president or Civil War general!
