Have you made promises that are difficult to keep?

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep."
The above quote aptly suits me at this moment. I promised Hatley I would check about how many best responses she has got and what is the percentage against her responses . I started doing this hours ago. I have kept her profile page open and go there as and when I get time. Oh boy! What have I done? I don't think I will get to her last page even if my day ends! But I will not give up!
Have you ever been in a quandary such as this one!

I think we all do. Might be a reason I dont promise very often. As I feel bad if I have to break one.

One should weigh the task that is ahead. I did not do that while promising Hatley that I would check for her best responses. I do have a task indeed. But I will see to its end!

It was tough but I did it. At my first attempt I deleted the pages by mistake. I had already reached up to 250. I started all over again but succeeded.

I love the quotation. where does it come from? I have a thing about promises as I almost consider them to be sacred so I do not make promises lightly, and to my knowledge have always kept a promise - especially to children. There are probably many instances where it proved difficult but I just cannot remember any specific instance

I haven't read rober Frost in years. Thank for this. I love poetry and se to write some - a few were published. Yes, we do get a sense of satisfaction when we have kept our promises. You are so right

This is a quote by Robert Frost. Many of us believe in keeping promises once they are made. Once fulfilled they give us a nice feeling.

It is stale news. That project has been completed long time ago. You better go and find out!

Some friend I have here! I need encouragement For a participation of 60000 responses it is no joke flipping through best responses. I am nowhere near the last page. But tenacity being my middle name,I will not give up.

No, I have not experienced such a predicament and if ever, maybe I would be sad and feel guilty even though I knew I exerted all my efforts to make it possible. Usually I don't promise anything if I can't keep it. Aside from losing my credibility, trust is something that is hard to earned back if I have not fulfilled such a promise.
Anyway, I just hope you can satisfy Hatley for what you have promised her.

What I promised Hatley I fulfilled. It was a tough task with 60000 responses which meant greater number of best responses. It took me a long time but I am glad I finished the task.
Today's generation is famous for giving false promises. Just a few days ago my neighbour who has come from abroad promised me that he would drop in but he did not. I did not ask him but he himself said he would. When they cannot keep to their promise why make it. It upsets me.
Never promise something which we cannot keep.

Oh that's really a feat, good job my friend. The time you have spent pays off, without a doubt. I'm sure hatley would be elated because you have kept your promise to her.

I am the type of a persona, who promises first and thinks second. Thats what gets me into trouble often... Cause I usually regret the promises I made and at times even break them (usually when its about nothing serious... only going to a pub with someone etc....). People generally get angry at me for being like that, but I just haven't learned to say NO. Ill have to change that. I'm lazy and like heavily lazy at times, which also gets into the way.

That can be very annoying as others would make their plans depending on you and then you let them down. Very bad Alechin. Since you are aware of this I am sure you will do something about it. As for me if I have made a promise, rain or shine, I will stick to it.

That again is totally in your hands. It is odd that you say yes when you know it is a no!

Do you make promises and never keep. Can you tell us about it?

No, I would consider if I can make out of the promise, if it's too difficult to me, I would rather refuse it.Because it would be a very bad feeling to me when I find I can't keep a promise.

That is indeed a wise thing to do. As they look before you leap! Right?

Yes, we all do. Every time I made one and could't fulfill it I became guilty, and lose someone's trust. I think it i better if we don't make promises when we're happy. And never swear or make sudden decision when we're sad.

Sometimes we do not weigh the situation and on the surface they seem to be achievable. As you say we all have this experience at some time in our life. At the moment, I am going through it, but I shall keep to my promise

Sometimes what happens is that it looks all easy. It is only when one starts getting into whatever that promise is one realises how difficult it is to accomplish it. As is happening to me at this moment. I have promised Hatley that I will work on her best responses but it never seems to end!

Most of the promises I've broken are my promises to myself. That's probably better since that means I didn't disappoint somebody else. On the other hand, that also means that I get really frustrated with myself. Most of the promises I've broken are something like, "I'm not going to procrastinate anymore" or "I'm going to get straight A's this term."
I try to avoid keeping promises to other people. I only promise if I am more than sure that I can keep my promise.

Procrastination is the worst of all crimes against oneself. I too do that with me. I put off things that can wait but sometimes when things pile up it becomes impossible to attend to them but attend I have to.
Your thought for others is good in that you do not promise something that you cannot do. Some give false promises which can be frustrating for the one whom a promise is made!

I normally keep to all promises. The case in point is working on Hatley's best responses. It was a tough task but I kept my promise.
The only promise I have yet to keep is suggesting something for my friend who is losing hair. I read somewhere about a cure. I still cannot find it. But I have it in my mind.
I hate those who makes promises and do not keep them as most just say it knowing fully well at that point in time itself that they will not keep them!
