Is that correct of what you say? Leaving your computer for 5 hours? Is computer a desktop or a laptop? Gee, that is already a long hours for computer to make it standby for 5 hours. Just shutdown the computer, if your leaving your computer for a longer hours. Why do you need leave your computer for a longer period of time, 5 hours?

Laptop should not used like that. Only a desktop can do for a longer period of time because they have bigger fans or blowers. Desktop hard disks are more stable than the hard disk in laptops. Laptop accumulate faster heat, because of its small form. Including the heat that is coming from the displays of laptops. So, better not close down immediately laptop displays when used for a longer period of time it can damaged or limit the life of your display screen. Laptop with Atom, AMD64, core 2 duo or any 64bit processing are easy to accumulate heat and into overheating when it use for a longer period of time. Your hard disk may have stop working when heat accumulates during standby for a longer period of time. That's why the operating system stop or freeze. Anyway, if you like your laptop. Use cooling pads for laptops. And, be sure at least to take it off the display screens before leaving while running the laptop. But, the real problem is the laptop's hard disk, it will surely fail due to heat. Laptop's hard disk are not designed for that kind of continue unlimited routines or tasks. It can limit the life of your laptop's hard disk. So, better always backup your files.

Hi tech40, I think you may have some kind of virus in your system. Try to clean up your computer software first using some programs which you can find and download from the internet. If that doesn't help to clear the virus then you probably need to reformat and reinstall your operating software. Have a good day.

Hi tech40, Sometimes reformatting is the best and easiest way to solve this sort of problem. You can always do a back up of your files before reformatting. And you can reinstall your programs after you've reinstated the OS. Anyway, like I said earlier try to clean up the virus first. Who knows it may work.

I'm not sure what the problem is as I have a pc that acts similar with firefox. If I close it for whatever reason and try to reopen it, I will sometimes get anerror message that says it's already running and I need to close the program that's running. So I shut it down and start it back up and it usually resolves the problem. My Hubby likes to say it's because I have too many tabs open or too many tool bars giving it reason to have a fit.

Look like you're running a 32 bit version. If your processor is compatible with 64 bit and get that version of windows and see if you can add more ram 4GB is recommended.

Hi tech40! The problem is with your laptop gtting heated up! Proper ventillation for your laptop should be supplied. a cooling pad could help. Your situation is that you are running your laptop for 5 hours continously and your cpu core temperature rises up hanging your laptop. There are different responses for different processors INTEL processor : hangs your pc when overheated AMD processor : restarts your pc when overheated Use "Speccy" software to find your core-cpu temperatures. Happy Mylotting!!

Backup your files on a USB or an external hard drive. Do a couple of anti-virus, anti-spyware, just anti this anti that scans, restart and see if its fixed. If not, then Re-format your lap top, and after it's done and you install the drivers etc. Try it and if the problem is still there, then it's most probably a failing hardware problem. If it's solved and it works fine now, transfer your files back on your lap top, and continue doing what you want to do... :)

I think it would help by you by disclosing more details here: 1. What is your laptop's config. OS/RAM/Model? 2. What program was running during the 5 hours? 3. What else was operating besides the basic function? Without these information, everyone will be guessing and instead of giving you the correct advise, we might be making your problem worse.

Hello tech40 This is the first time i am hearing a problem of this kind , i don't have a laptop but my desktop will run for at least 20 hours in a day , some times it get hung . It is common to systems , they will get hung if they are over loaded for certain amount of time . Once test your laptop by using it for 5 hours without using the program you are running and check the difference .
