Fix-it tickets

A while back, Tony got pulled over, and ended up with a fix-it ticket for his headlight. Today he's going to court to prove it's fixed and satisfy the ticket. But last night he told me he got another ticket. He got pulled over, and the cop said his tail lights were too dark. Tony gets pulled over more often than anybody I ever knew, and he either gets held there for 15 - 20 minutes and then let go, or occasionally he gets a fix-it ticket. I really wonder if his tail lights were too dark, or is it that Tony is too dark?

I think it has more to do with previous records...I mean, they do analyze the data of accidents and classify between genders, age groups, and races. Here racial profiling is not essentially for differentiating between races. Instead, here, it may be because the traffic police have some statistics about races, and they intend to ensure a more thorough check up of that race to keep accident numbers low. It is just like muslims are suspects because of more number of known terror outfits being muslims. I agree it is wrong to differentiate like that. But what can we do?

I know for certain that there are a few cars that are known to be at fault. Perhaps, it is the make of the car that GG has suggested. Previous owner of the car also matters. Age matters. The part of the world from where he comes matters. I mean, I would feel more confident with a person from city than a person who came from village out here. Simply because those people are accustomed to pressing accelerator the moment they hit the road; they dont have much traffic to tackle, right? So they dont really bother about slowing down, bringing the car to near halt..waiting at the turnings, they tend to kind of race just in case signal forces them to wait...even if we are in no hurry to reach wherever we have to. Again a married driver with kids is preferable to unmarried guy. Personal perceptions of responsibility? :) I think traffic police has enough to do in the hot climate than to stop people based on race. However, I cant be the right person to judge it from here.

There are some cops who tend to pull over anyone who is more than a shade darker than they. There are also neighbors who will call the police on residents who are "Standing Outside While Black." There are also plenty of store clerks who get overly attentive when anyone with dark skin or an accent walks into a store.

oh mh G you mean they think that some one dark will steal their damn purses how horrid to be that racist. One apartment complex I lived in in had a really nice couple who where being shunned by half the residents there and why: just because the husband was negro. They really missed something as they were a very friendly and kind
couple and I and my husband had enjoyed their friendship,. the two old biddies who lived in the next apartment called me in and scolded me for associating with them. I told them I was ashamed of them for beig racists.

Do you know, my parents, when they were getting their marriage license in Atlanta, had to raise their hands and swear that neither of them had colored blood?

I have a grandson -in-law who is black. This is a fine young man, who is totally responsible, a family man and a teacher, But just knowing him has taught me that being a Black Man in the USA leads to living in a whole different world than white men of the same age group live in. So it would not surprise me at all that Tony suffers from this same failing in our society.

When I used to visit the daughter in N.C. we would drive to S.C. to visit friends. There was one stretch of road and when we resched there she would get anxious and she would slow down well below the speed limit. The reason being that the good ole Sherriff had the habit of stopping many cars if the drivers were a darker shade of pale. She said that it was called DWB which meant driving whilst black.
I have to say though that apart from visiting the sherrif's office or Police station or somewhere like that re her documents as she felt a little apprehensive, she had the most marbvellous time in the South and made amazing friends of all shades and so many of them came to us when she got married too. She loved her time there.
This is so annoying for Tony and yes, it could be racism. who knows?

Well, I am not surprised that much, you should know that I once aboard the scooter I once had, I was stopped on the same day twice a roadblock of cops to a normal routine check! All within a mile!
The second time they stopped me I, beat I said, "But then you've got the right with me!."

Sad... some people have that kind of bad luck. In Las vegaas my ex would get stopped all the time for those same things.

Im sure alittle of both. They also would keep my ex pulled over sometimes for 30-40 minutes. Then let him go with only warning.

Well it is probably the tail lights. I do not think it is because he is dark unless the car was black, all the car seats were black, he kept the light low, and he was wearing a dark suit. Then the officer could not see him. There is the possibility that there is a criminal in the area who looks like him and has the same make of car. I saw that once on an old Dragnet show where the police stopped someone whose car was the same make as one used in a robbery.
I suspect this is what is going on. Tony bears an uncanny resemblance to a local criminal and the police are checking up on him to make sure he is not that crook.

I think it's just guys driving sporty red cars that get stopped. Mommobiles they don't bother with.

Hello Dawn. It was a shame that Tony got pulled over and given a fix it ticket for his headlight. It is awful that he got pulled over again last night and given a fix it ticket for his too dark tail lights. He seems to get pulled over an awful lot. Good luck to him in the future.

One night years ago my ex had gone for a drive after he and I had had a argument. He was over by the sorority house at the college and was stopped by a cop. The cop detained him for more than 45 minutes because they had had a report of a beeping tom and this cop thought sure it was him. They treated my husband horribly cause they thought he was the peeper. Finally a cop clear over on the opposite side of the college called dispatch and said they had caught the guy over on that side just right where the girl that had called it in had said he was. So my husband comes home, tells me about it and says he just wants to go to bed, he's tired. I said no way. I called and talk to this cops superior and told him how my husband was treated. My ex may have been a jerk but he wasn't a peeping tom. LOL Cops can be really twits. I think that a lot of people do get stopped cause of the color of their skin. My ex isn't Black American but he is dark from working out in the sun all of the time. Stupid cop.

I guest the cops around here a bit more lenient than where you are. I've been pulled over for a busted light a couple of times. One was real, as in I didn't know about it, the other I knew but I just pretended that it was the first time I've known that the light was busted.
I got away without any tickets both times.
Can Tony pretend that he didn't know about it too?

Ok, dumb question, but are you black? And I only ask because I am implying that they might have been more lenient if tony were not...

That's a new one on me, I have never heard of anyone being pulled over because their tail lights were too dark? Sounds like harrassment to me, but of course trying to prove that is probably near to impossible. Why does the tail light have a dimmer switch?

Haha, i get tickets too!! It is generally parking tickets or sometimes when i accidentally forget my helmet at home. I try to avoid cops in such situations but they are very sneaky and they eventually manages to get me tickets. It is frustrating really at times. But what you gonna do, its the law and order! :

It's one thing if they are citing you for something you actually did. It's another when they are pulling you over for no good reason and looking for excuses to bother you.

It does make you wonder, doesn't it. I would also ask if he bought his car new or used? I knew of a nice young man who got pulled over constantly. He knew the history of his vehicle and said the previous owner had gotten into a lot of difficulties and they stopped him constantly in that car. I went through a year or two of being stopped frequently. . . and that took place after my sister's dog kept getting out. It made me paranoid.

oh oh that ugly old color issue again perhaps dawn I sure hate that and police officers should be trained to not look at things like bigots at all.I do not understand how tail lights could be too dark unless the officer really had a problem with Tony's race.
that is awful if its true there.

the best thing to do and yes pain in the butt bout walk around the car many times check the all the lights and make sure that they all work a few minutes of time will save hundreds in fines and time off to go to court some time you can go to the police on your time and they will check it to make sure every thing is fine and they will stop the ticket good luck
