What's wrong with the youth today?

I have ever posted a discussion about a sister who killed her brother over a pair of socks. Today my mom told me about a young girl, a senior high school student, who tried to commit suicide just because her parents didn't like her boyfriend. I mean, come on! What has gotten into her mind?? First, she still has a very long journey of life - she has a future to think about. Second, what would this suicidal action make any difference if she died? Oh, she's still alive, by the way. The parents were managed to send her to the hospital and saved her life. I really can't relate to anything about this action. What was she thinking? She could have discussed this with her parents, right? Or at least her mother. I just don't understand the youth today. What's wrong with them? Or can I say, whose to be blamed?

It makes perfect sense to me. she loves this guy and doesn't want to live without him. Unlike strong minded people like me who would just begin lying to my parents , she thought she Had to obey and never see him. the pain was so intense she rather just end things. Makes perfect sense. I would feel the same. as for the socks? unless a famous athlete wore them, I can't see killing anyone over socks.

A life without hope of being happy? It would only work if she Wants to get over him. If not, she wouldn't be happy. I know I wouldn't be happy without my guy in my life. I wouldn't kill myself but dep down to my core I would be all alone and life would seem worthless.

There's always a hope to be happy. But indeed, just like you said, it depends on her choice. She's a young adult, she would still have thousands of chances to "see" the world and people. Not only losing a boyfriend could make us sad. And not only a permission from parents about our boyfriend could make us happy. If we see it now, when we have been through a lot of things in life, of course I would say I couldn't live without my boyfriend either. But I used to have a boyfriend that my parents disagreed with, but well, here I am, still alive and happy. I was really devastated that time, I thought my parents didn't love me as they didn't let me to be with this guy. But when I think about it over again right now, would my life be this perfect if I was still with him? I have a boyfriend that I really love now, he's not perfect but my parents agree with him.

At least she'd live. Memories indeed can't be erased, but at least it can be replaced. She could learn to move on and even get stronger.

WEll I really think that the kids today think they can run the family like they are the grownup more than the parents. Can you think back of when most of this kind of thing started? I can and its got to do with disaplen spareing the rod spoiling the child. WHen PArents had to stop spanking or diaplening thier kids for if they did the parents could end up in jail kids took that in hand and alot of them do come up with things to put thier parents in jail so they can have their way. All comes down to not being able to be the parent!

Oh yes, you are so right! That also happens in my country. Parents spanking the children are wrong. So children today really have no respect to parents. And plus technology is very scary. Children depends on the technology too much so they lack of communication with parents.

Hi Miss Piggy: The answer could vary from one to another but I think that the problem is that they actually don't think about their actions. Most of these kids just act based on the feeling of the moment, the anger. Why does it happen? Probably because they don't spend enough time with their families and second, because society has sold them other priorities that they don't value their own lives and who they love. It's sad and depressing. ALVARO

It's indeed sad and depressing, making me think what would happen five years ahead. And I think you're right, children today are busier with their gadgets and internet than with their parents. And parents only think that they earn a living for their children has already become the form of love. While it's not like that.

The youth today is mad! They are influenced by media, especially the TV. I can see it on my cousins. They are entirely crazy. They wear ridiculous clothes, rebel against everything. I especially hate the EMO group and that sort. It makes me sad, when I see young behaving like that and wasting their potential. They should be competing in other things besides whose parents are richer and whose clothes are more ridiculous and who is pierced by more nails and on more lucrative spots.

Well, unfortunately, they care about those last things more than the potential thing. It's indeed sad, but it's the fact.

Hi Misspiggy Well I think what has happened here it sounds to me like "Mental Illness" of some sort. I am not making excuses at all for these horrible acts however I really feel our younger generation has a lot of pressure more than ever and perhaps parents are unable to spend more time with their children, or perhaps this has been passed down to them through their genes we may never understand but I have to agree it does seem we hear more and more of these tragic things happening more frequently.

I think I agree with this "parents are unable to spend more time with their children". You're right, I think parents are getting busier with the job and forget that their children don't only need their money, but also their presence. But somehow we can't blame the parents as well. With the raise of the daily needs, I think people finally think that money is everything. Plus, children watch too much TV and see such things in the news so they imitate the actions. Sad actually.

Oh dang, I made a mistake. This is what I meant to say: "Plus, children watch too much TV and see such things in the news so they imitate the actions." And the code should come after "Sad actually".

Morning MissPiggy,it's true that the society has changed in some ways, maybe there're other things about the youth who did some strange things all over the world. But whose to be blamed?

You are a person owing the sense of logic, while you should understand not all the people can think as you did. Here some people even in their 50s or 60s are still losing their logic sense, which lead them do things in a ridiculous way. To many teenagers, they want to get enough attention and love, while what they can get that is doing things in an absurd way.

That's it. That's what people forget to give these days: love and attention. Parents are too busy with the jobs, children are too busy with the technology. So there's no communication during the dinner or spending spare times with the family anymore. It's just so sad.

Few factors are responsible for this.Firstly it is possible that such cases were there in huge number long time ago too when there was no media to inform us about all this.Today with advanced media you cant get news from all over the world just like that hence we feel these cases happen more in our time. Then its about exposure, sometimes you are not matured enough to sustain in a particular environment but since you have access and freedom you get into that space and ultimately you don't know how to behave or handle those situations.May be that high school student was not matured enough to get into a relationship, she could have seen her other friends getting into it and hence just joined the bandwagon without even thinking about the consequences like what will be the reaction of her parents about her decision. With internet you have access to all kinds of movies which are not suitable for children of particular age,but they watch those movies and learn from it.That is why we see cases like brother kills sister and cases similar to these. If a child who is not aware of what is crime and punishment, plays Grand Theft Auto,he might think that killing people in streets is a great idea.Best wishes.

:o that´s really wierd indeed... I think youth canot accept no as an answer ahah ._. I hate to receive nos so I´m blaming myself but I´m not that freakie to go kill myself. There are thing in life we cannot just waste like this :o by killing ourselfs it´s no worth the trouble to do it

Well, not all "no"s are bad. Sometimes they're meant to warn us or even protect us. I know most of the time people can't easily take this "no" but when we try to think positive, then it's not a problem. Don't blame yourself too much as well. It won't be good for your mental growth.

Today the youths are not logical and they are driven by excess emotion and becoming more and more eccentric. The society is largely responsible for this moral degradation as well as feeble mildness. They need to learn social values and interaction positively.

So what should we do? They watch too much TV and enjoy gadgets too much.
