As more news reports are indicating that the North Korea missile attack on US is becoming more and more real, I have to ask everybody what does North Korea stand to gain from this attack.
Other than, the whole world turning onto North Korea and a good excuse for South Korea to launch a counterattack for this unthinkable act, I don't see anything else. If this is the case, the North Korea leader must be out of his mind to go ahead with such an attack. I really hope that this war could be averted with all sides exercising diplomacy. Surely, President Kim Jung Un could foresee a world retaliation as a consequence for his attack on America or he is being foolishly ignorant.
What is your take on this?

The North Korean leader is out of his mind. He wants power. They said several weeks ago that North Korea didn't have the technology to send a bomb our direction. We are manning up for whatever they may intend to do. They are not letting South Korean people go across the border to their jobs at a factory they had agreed to let them go to. I don't know what Jung Un thinks he is going to accomplish either. He wants power but this is certainly not the way to go about it.

My other concern now would be if North Korea and Iran are together in this plan to attack America. All it takes is one concerted effort to fire nukes from both countries at the same time and the majority of America will be under attack.
This may be imaginative and a fantasy but if we've followed the news - than I am sure it is not impossible.

It is not as if he is a child with a single digit to his age but a 30 year old adult who should be aware what outnumbered means. With his inclination for Disney's Mickey Mouse, I wonder if he is trying to revive the unsuccessful preemptive strike on the Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in WWII. If he is then he really needs to remember the final words of Combined Fleet Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto in the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" where he said - "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
I hope President Kim would realize that whatever he is doing here is not be considered to be any accomplishment when it would be getting his country and him in trouble of inconceivable proportion.

He doesn't care. He feels what he wants and what he sees as happening is all important. I think he has delusions of grandeur. He thinks he is much more powerful and grander that he really is. Sad. He will kill many because of this.

I honestly think that he is a maniac and full of ego. How can we talk to a man who is a lose canon? Not possible. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and possibly a sociopath to keep making these threats. I also think that the threats are real and a danger to the world. We need a rambo or someone to get the bad man and I am ony half joking. We cannot take this lightly as he really means what he says regertfully.Very worrisome. At first I was not concerned but now I am as I think that he is serious

This is the problem as he is unpredictable. The consequences for the world will be dire. Remember Chrnobyl Countries were affected because the wind blew that way and they lost land, animals etc. This one would be far worse and we, in the Caribbean would also be affected. The man is mad. The people should rise but he has the army and the might and would slaughter any rebellion

I do not think he does not know the consequences of his decisions and actions. However, I have to wonder if North Korea will be the only country that will launch a war with America considering that there are other enemies that will be more than happy to participate in the attack. I just hope that Iran is in together with North Korea on this.
America has better not repeat Pearl Harbor or 9/11 or this will be catastrophic.

I bet he has a lot to gain by waging a war in Korea Peninsula. When war start, he doesn't need to hear criticism on the North Korean children mass starvation in the country side from international community anymore. All eyes and attention will be on him instead of the N.Korean children dying of hunger. He may also get his real hand on experience on a real war instead of playing a virtual war game in video arcade only. May be he want to give South Korea and USA an opportunity/excuse to counter attack N.Korea so that he can free all his people into China when the Peninsula is engulf with war like you said. He is a young man with too much good things in his life growing up in his palace, with no worry about food, money, clothing, health care etc.. he may not think that war is such a bad thing after all like some of us believe. A chubby boy grow up fed with a silver spoon has no idea life is tough for common people, he want to make a lot more difficult for everyone in the continent and region.

I really wish that it would be merely a delusional man with his eagerness to play with his "toys". However, we cannot discount the possibility of him colluding with another enemy of America to launch the attack.
So far, there's been quite a fanfare on the developments and I do not feel very comfortable for America to be so confident with the reporting of declassified documents about North Korea's nuclear armament. I see a little over-confidence for comfort and I wish that America will not wake up to find a big mushroom in their own backyard.

Since time, China already has a full plate and the relationship strained. It is no surprises here.
While North Korea is edging towards acting on their dictator's call to go into war which is God knows when, I cannot help to wonder if there will be supporters picking up the fight with North Korea against America namely Syria, Iran and maybe Arab Spring. We cannot be complacent here.
If nuclear war does break out, I don't think there would be any issues on refugees when there's really no place to run to. Nuclear war is unlike conventional war the damages are far reaching and more devastating. I just do not wish for it to break out.
On the other end, if war does not break out the political world would be taking a beating when this oppressive dictator will not be held accountable for his actions of defiance against the world organizations like the UN council and conventions for world peace. It will be a bad precedence for other countries to follow, especially one which sends clear and damaging messages across the globe, encouraging tyrants, brutal regimes and even terrorists to consider the idea of going nuclear to confront their enemies - that nuclear is true power.

If their supporters from Syria and Iran are willing to pile up and join in the fight, they are more than welcome to participate, no one here is going to prevent them from going into N.Korea. But the fact here is that probably not going to happen, since N.Korea is not an Islamic state, those Islamic militants can't be convinced to put their own life at risk for the establishment of a hermit regime in a totalitarian state, unless this chubby new leader promise to turn N.Korea into an Islamic state or convert himself into their faith. Or present crises engulf the middle east region regarding Iran nuclear proliferation treaty and Syria internal civil war are taking a big turn or facing a drastic change of direction.
This chubby boy may like to use the present tense situation in Korean Peninsula as ground for his new arsenal of 'Nuclear' devices testing, he want to see how many South Korean he can vaporized into thin air when one of his new 'toy' is set to detonate inside S.Korea capital or any big city at the southern border, after their constant defiance on calling him the " Great leader of Korean People " and refuse to accept his 'legal' authority across Korean Peninsula by his communist master.

He is only thirty years old and is letting the power go to his head. I hope and pray that he realizes that if he was to fire a missile at us he would be in big trouble. The US has to many allies that will get on the band wagon to counter attack his country. I just hope that the people that are surrounding him, have age on their side and talk some type of sense into this inmature leader.

I don't think it is any easier as far as convincing him with the current developments and deployments of nukes in North Korea. Other than, deposing him I believe that he is surrounded with a bunch of lunatics that his country is capable of world recognition and dominance.
No offense to his supporters, because any wise and experienced military ranks would know that North Korea will not be able to finish whatever they start once they fire nukes to America or even South Korea. They will only be targeted by the whole world who are either allies of America/S Korea or against use of military force or war.
It is a pity because he really could do so much more for his ravaged poor country.

A study of history shows that there always seems to be a war going on somewhere. The reasons for war are many. Space, power, boredom, monetary gain are a few. With the nuclear abilities of the world these days, war has to be about restraint, because if nuclear war starts, it's all over for everyone.

I think, that North Korea isn't going to try to launch Missile to America. I think this is a way for Kim Jung Un to gain more respect among North Korean people, that is propaganda in full effect. Pyongyang is rallying support for Kim Jung Un, thus making him seem to be a strong and confident leader. I don't think it'll escalate into full war, but there might be border conflicts.

He could try and launch a missle against the US but what he doesn't seem to realize is the US could bomb him back to the dark ages and never use a Nuke. The one to watch is Iran they might just pull off a power play of their own by attacking Iraq and Syria making them the new power in the Middle East and a force to be reconed with.

Honestly, I really do not wish to see North Korea being bombed on his account but would rather see a strategic elite force insertion to take him out. But, I really have to wonder if there will be another good leader in the lineage to replace him and bring about the stability for the entire country. I could not help anticipate an inevitable civil war as the powers within will be engage in full power to wrestle for control of the country once this Kim Jung Un is being removed from power.
It is equally worrying on the Middle East situation with Iran being another possible stirrup along with the Arab Spring movement, which is very unsettling. From history, war has never resolved anything and these leaders in position should realize the complications and consequences that comes with their decisions here.

As we all know, he is still a very young leader who decides on impulse. He has to think really hard and do consultations with his wise advisers before doing anything as drastic as waging war with the US. Obviously, he has to learn lessons from the past. War is never a solution to any problem, big or small.

North Korea will have nothing to lose if they launch an attack on the US. But US will lose plenty. That said, when it does happen, you can be sure that it will be the start of World War III. China being North Korea closest ally will stand by their side. US and South Korea will most probably be supported by Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Japan, which have some conflict with China over sovereign issues. Of course, the likes of UK will be on the US side. That left with Russia and WWIII

While you may have your point of view, I thought I'd like to highlight a glaring point when you mentioned that North Korea will have NOTHING to loose if they were to start a war.
How is it so? Are you saying the the lives of Americans matters more than the North Koreans? Are North Koreans are nuke impenetrable?
While China and Russia may have supported North Korea voting against military action during the vital UN council meeting, I believe the line has been very clear when preemptive strikes were discouraged and humanitarian aid must continue as the country is recovering from famines and natural disasters with the condition that North Koreans stopping their nuclear reactors and programs.
Since North Korea has renegade on the deal, both Russia and China have washed their hands as far as diplomacy and support is concern. So, I firmly believe that North Korea has EVERYTHING to loose if they were to start a nuclear war with either America or South Korea.

I heard that Un is becoming a threat in order to gain 'respect as a leader.'
The 'threat' I heard about was that he is putting together a nuclear force---they say he's putting that together to supply electricity to North Korea, but the nuclear equipment is not being hooked into any existing power-grids.

Short of the the withdrawal of various consulates and war declaration, I believe all of us can say anything to the otherwise tense situation. Even the financial markets in Asia seems bullish but I think we need to remember what happens when you have a bull in a China shop.
I know there's another school of thought where it is derived from the hope that diplomacy falls through and stop the inevitable. However, if we have been following the news, it seems like the young leader is not dealing well with his tantrums and backing out his offensive plans to attack. Let's hope that the foreign representatives will not be recalled back to their respective countries, otherwise this will be mean war.
If electricity can feed the entire North Korea population, then who are we to object or even be concern about when the people are already struggling. So, is war.

I simply hope North Korea is not serious about this threats of going to war with South Korea and the United States. I hope this time it's all talk with no concrete action. We in Asia are following up all news about this state of war declared against Sokor. Many countries in this part of the world would certainly be affected in a nuclear war not to mention the loss of lives and infrastructures. What Nokor will gain from the war is anybody's guess. They aren't going to become a super power by starting an attack since almost all countries prefer peace. With the uncertainties on the global economy, we certainly don't need a war right now or ever.

Apparently, news of North Korea's defiant actions like reopening its nuclear reactors and nuke deployments are considerable show that it is not backing away from attacking either South Korea or America. There's nothing logical in these decisions and plans other than bringing bad consequences to themselves. The people of North Korea will suffer if it is to go to war here.
Interestingly, the financial markets does not reflect that war is about to break with the South Korea and Japan market indexes reflecting positive trading results. I hope it remains this way and that the president of North Korea will seriously take a step back with his lunatic plan.

Short of his lunacy to become America's enemy along with the rest of the world, I really do not know what he has in his young age and mind. He could do so much for his country and of all the plans, he chose to show his preference for brutality.
I am sure the people of North Korea does not stand with his missile attack plan but I have been surprised so far that there's no news about a revolt against his lunacy. It is equally surprising that his military aides could be agreeing to this use of military force and not forgetting lethal nuclear war.
I really do not wish to see a war breaking out especially when there's no legitimacy to do so.

Nowadays i try not to get involved with the war/politics news stuff, we have no idea what the truth is.
We know only what they want us to know and allow us to know, so no point in wasting time, i can entertain myself in other ways...
But if North and South Korea want to go to war with each other, let them. Their problem.
And if Whichever other coutry wants to get involved for any reason, they deserve to be attacked from their enemies. It's very simple for me, you want to get involved and be in the middle of something? Well you're involved now!
Every action has a reaction, all there is to it.

Take this for an example.
Person A and person B have a problem and they are or are going to fight it off.
So person C comes up and joins person A to help him defeat person B.
Person B has all the moral right to call person D to help him out.
And if person D doesnt exist. Then person B should gather all his power, pride, whatever, and fight it off until the end.
Or bow down, and become a slave, get beat down, robbed, killed, locked away, whatever the other 2 guys plan on doing with him.

You realize that the entire world's economy will take a big beating if war is to break out between Korea and US or you don't realize. This would mean stocks will collapse and subsequently currencies. It will simply cause another financial meltdown and economic crisis to follow.
Also, if this is going to be nuclear I believe we are all in danger of being radiated and the damage to the environment would be so considerable that we might face unthinkable amount of damage. Nukes are not like conventional bombs and as such the damage will be unimaginatively grave and devastating.
@LegalAlien (641)

5 Apr 13
You realize that the entire world's economy is already beaten or you don't realize?
There is already a financial meltdown and an economic crisis.
We are already radiated, cancer, allergies, aids, STD's, autoimmune diseases, antibiotic resistant bacteria and the list goes on and on.
Toxins in the air, polluted seas, oceans, wildlife extinct, forests cut down and polluted.
Chemicals in shampoos, body lotions, in food, bewerages, water.
I really don't care what happens next, it cannot possible be worst than where we are headed if things just continue on a slow but steady road to hell. Like right now.
And looking at it from the animals point of view, how we kill them and torture them and use them for experiments and all kinds of disgusting things. I dont really think they would have a problem with a couple of billion of us "going away". And they have been here longer than the human animal has been around.
Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. But if the people feel so strongly about it, gather all the armies, all the bombs, all the brainwashed soldiers, and send them over to North Korea. Im sure these good guys have enough firepower to make North Korea disapear over night. Like literally...
But hey i have my own views and opinions and i agree to disagree and respect anyone's opinion.
And when survival kicks in, i hope it doesnt come to nuclear warfare. :)
