shopping... have you ever splurged on something expensive but not necessary?

when we go shopping and have some extra cash, we sometimes get tempted to buy something that isn't really necessary at all. we buy it just because it caught our eye and we like it. a friend of mine went to japan and she bought a very expensive kimono. she knew she wasn't going to have the occasion to wear it but she still got it. it's been in her closet since. what about you? have you ever done something similar to this? what was it that you purchased? did you have regrets?

Hey dagami, I totally agree and can relate to what you say. SOmetimes when i go out shopping, i really get tempted to buy stuffs that i don't need at all. And the worse part is it felt really nice in the store. But then when we went back home and try again, it just looks different It's not good on us anymore. I think there's just so much things that i have purchased and then ultimately regret. But that was more like a past me. For me now, i seldom go out shopping because i don't wnat to spend unnecesary money. ALso, i now tend to think alot before buying something and this gives me alot of stress and therefore i seldom shop.

some people are impulsive buyers. i belong to this group (LOL) but due to the financial crisis, i have also cut down on my expenses. money is hard to find nowadays.

There was once that hubby and I needed to attend a special function with special attire. It was a last minute decision, and we do not have the clothing that matches the function. So, my hubby brought me to the mall and we search all the shoplots one by one but could not find. However, times are running out, and we ended up buying them at the last minutes by impulse. Those clothing cost us a lot of money! We are very much regreted buying them as we wore it for once, and now being kept in the closet. I told my hubby, no more next time...hahaha!

party clothes are expensive. i would also feel the same. however, we sometimes need to attend formal functions and having one on stand by in the closet is good. next time you won't need to buy another, just make sure that you don't outgrow it...

But sad to say, it is no longer suitable for me now. And same goes to my hubby.. Ever since that incidence, we have learnt a good lesson and never would do that again. My hubby's given away to someone else. mine still hanging on the closet. It will be given away too someday...

If you have the extra cash and you are not taking the money away from essentials then why not, treat yourself! However if you buy something that you are never going to use or wear then that is a waste, better to wait and save the extra money up for something that you truly want and will actually use. The only time I bought anything spontaneous which was expensive was my first car, I had just been dumped big time and I was real upset so I went out, saw a car, loved it and bought it without even test driving it! Crazy, looking back, and I didn't have the car for long, I sold it after a year! And I certainly didn't get half the money back that I paid for it! Regrets, some, but at least I learnt my lesson!

that was quite impulsive of you. buying a car without even test driving it. but i guess it had warranty. i buy "useless things" but never something as expensive as a car.

Yes, unfortunately. Me and hubby went to the Mall of America and on impulse, I bought this Marc Jacobs purse. I was so excited and happy that hubby just went along and bought it for me. Now, I haven't even used it. It's just in my closet and I have yet to use it. I just found out that aside from that I still have a couple of purses that I haven't even used before I bought that one. I wish I haven't bought one like that, it wasn't even on sale. I just promised myself that I will never buy another purse again for a while.

My biggest splurges are always for things that I love, books, food or a jacket that keeps me warm. So I think, although they are not bare necessities, they are worth it.

I am also that kind of person who buys things that even its not necessary when I have any extra money. I bought the things that catches my attention even if I cant use it everyday .. I just wanted to give my self something from the money that I get from my efforts to earn :))

i agree with you. it feels good to buy something for ourselves with our earnings. i also have souvenirs from my 1st salaries in my past jobs. nothing expensive though, just something to remind me of.
