....he is soo cute, and he has a liter box. he just won't use it sometimes. he will just leave us little surprises around the house. i heard that if you get a cat neutered, that they don't really do that as often. is that true? he is not a year old yet, only a couple of months. is this something that he will grow out of. what can i do to stop him from pooping all around the house. i am tired of cleaning up poop.

This is not normal for a cat, something is not right. Is you litter box kept clean? This is the most common problem. Now if he is starting to spray urine
this is a typical prublem for owning an unneutered male. If you can get him neutered before he starts this it usually stops with neutering. The most problems
one has with a cat is learning what they are trying to teach us.

I have had cats for 30 odd years so have trained several litters. Your tom has either a medical problem, which I think is unlikely or he's being idle, which I think probably. I litter train this way: watch the cat for signs of peeing or pooing; typically they go to a corner and crouch down, swiftly pick him up and place on the box. Wait until he's 'performed' and buried the result, lots of praise, pat, pat. It should only take a few times to work. If he continues to avoid using the box, maybe it just doesn't feel safe, try moving it's position or maybe it's not clean enough. You need to supply clean litter everyday and wash out the box daily. You need a poop scoop to remove poop from the box; that needs doing ASAP after the event. Your kitten needa discouraging from pooping anywhere except the litter box, so you need a cold water spray. When you find poop anyhere except the litter box, pick him up, show him what he's done, spray and firm 'no'. As far as I know neutering and toileting are unrelated, but neutering a tom, calms them down and stops them wandering in search of a female so worthwhile from about a month old.

thank you so much for wisdom. my son's job is to do the literbox and he doesn't do it everyday. he waits like two days when i remember to remind him. i guess we have to do the liter box more often.

probably just marking its turf and getting familiar, my kitten did that totally ignoring the litter box, pooping peeing it's scent all over, especially at places it likes to claim but now it seems to have outgrown that and uses the litter box exclusively for it's business.big relieve an our part, not so much the cleaning up but have to wash the sofa of the smells and other places.

this is good to hear that there is hope in sight it will be over. i hope he stops really soon and just uses his liter box exclusively.

I had a cat before but he pooped outside all the time. We wanted to catch him where he does it and we saw him pooping in the garden. There was a bald spot at the side of the garden where you'd only see soil. He would take out some soil and poop there, then put the soil back in. I've gotta say, it was quite a while til we realized where he pooped since we never really cleaned even one of his poops. He was a stray cat, though, so I think he learned that from being on the street. I don't really know cat-psychology.

well, i think it's because this one is a baby. i have to go to the pet store and invest in a pooper scooper. that way it can help me keep his liter box more cleaner.
