Is Anne Hathaway the Ultimate Best Catwoman/'Selina Kyle' Ever?

I think so. Of course, I haven't seen Eartha Kitt's Catwoman/Selina in a while. But Kitt's & Hathaway's Catwomans (Catwomen) both had one crucial part a good Catwoman should have: no backstory. That gets you right to the matter at hand (without having to deal with 'understanding why she does those crazy things' etc.) However, Hathaway's Catwoman had another crucial aspect---she didn't do that corny "Purrrrrrrrrrr-fect" every other Catwoman has felt the need to do. (Maybe Michelle Pfiffer didn't do it either; but SHE thought that she WAS a cat, whereas Hathaway just 'adopted the costume' for much the same reason that Batman/'Bruce Wayne' did.) And--pardon IF THIS IS A SPOILER--but Bravo! to the writers of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES for making sure that Selina Kyle was much-much more than 'a notch in Batman's utility-belt'

Good observation, there. I remember watching the old Batman show as a kid. I never got into the superhero comics, though. So I can't, at all, say that I'm familiar with the stories behind the characters. I did a little research before responding and what I found was that in the comics as well as the series, supposedly, Catwoman was a cat burglar, which Anne Hathaway's portrayal definitely alludes to. So, that would certainly explain the 'cat costume.' Like I said, I know little to nothing of the character backgrounds. As far as Michelle Pfeiffer's version goes, keep in mind that that movie, as well as the one before it, was a Tim Burton creation, or perversion, depending on how you look at it. But, that contrasts greatly with Christopher Nolan's films. In Nolan's 'Dark Knight' films he paints a darker, grittier, and more believable version of Batman and his world. And according to what someone told me, Christian Bale's Batman is much closer to what the original Batman was really like. And, yeah, I would have to say that Anne Hathaway is the best Catwoman ever.

It might be better to to accredit Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer (the writers), for bringing Bob Kane's old Bruce Wayne/Batman story back!

Oh, I agree. They all definitely deserve credit. It's just that the director is most always the one, behind the camera, so to speak, that has the strongest influence on the final product. But, yeah, they all play an important part. Even the actors and the movie crews. But it's the director who really makes it all come together from a creative stand point. Like the conductor of an orchestra. All the musicians are important but if the conductor doesn't do his/her job right then the music won't sound good at all. Just my point of view. But I agree with you as well.

Yeah. The producer is the one with the final say---the one whom the final product is accredited-to or blamed-on. But the director IS the one whom the producer trusts to keep production at high-quality!

you have made some very interesting but true observations about the new cat woman. i did not like michelle pfiffer's version. it was too overdone. you have a good eye.

Anne Hathaway is OK. However, I still think that the best catwoman is Halle Berry. The catwoman character acted by her is quite impressive for me. She is pretty, proud, nimble and cunning who is like a cat. Anne Hathaway is more like a good cat

Did you hear that Halle Berry (now 40-something) is having another baby?

a notch on batman's utility belt? LOL. i think she did quite a good job too. but a lot of people dont really like anne hathaway whatever it is she does. i think they dont like her cause shes too pretty or she was a popular kid or because she tries her best to please everyone too much. either way, shes the only catwoman i can envision of as someone who did a good job. i remember halle berry but just because she played the role and for no other reason.

Halle Berry played a Catwoman. Anne Hathaway (& Michelle Pfiffer & Eartha Kitt & Julie Newmar?) played THE Catwoman of Batman. And I sorta don't like Anne Hathaway because she doesn't 'play to a type.' Angelina Jolie played to 'the action girl' (in my mind anyway). If there's a movie starring Angelina Jolie, it's gonna have an 'action girl'-vibe (And did Catwoman & Batman ever 'get together' BEFORE BATMAN RETURNS?)
