Sometimes there are sayings that your friends or your family know you better, but I disagree because there are times when I just want silence and I talk to myself about where I'm going with my life. I feel a lot better after doing that, I just turn everything off and hang around in my room while closing my eyes and thinking about what I have achieved and what I still lack. In the end I'll just know a lot more about myself, so if my friends ask something about me I don't hesitate with my reply cause I know myself better than anyone.
How about you my fellow MyLotters? Do you think you know yourself better than anyone else?

Hi,
You are right. We know ourselves better than anyone. We know what is going on in our mind and no one can understand it. We share our feelings with others but without telling anything how one can understand us? But I like to share my feelings with others than living alone. Very few times I like to live alone.

Well, no man's an island and although I have secrets that only I know, most of my other secrets are already shared to my friends. The other thing is that if I have problems I don't like to bear the burden alone, so I share my problems to almost every friend I know I can trust. Thanks for the reply! :D

I think I have to agree with you. Yes. I think it is ourselves that knows better compared with other people. I think people will agree with me that we have secrets that we keep within ourselves. That nobody knows it except ourselves!

Yes, i alwasy here people sayign that our family members know us better than ourselves. I agree only to a certain point. Becuase i think we don't understand ourselve fully. There are some characteristics with us that we might not be able to see and we need help from our friends or family members to tell us and help us point it out.
For me, I think i understand myself but i also am open to listening to the viewpoints of other. I really like it when others tell me about me becuase i know where i can change to become a better me.

Well that is right too, although we know ourselves better, we still need to hear other's opinions, because we might miss some facts. Thanks for the reply! :D

Yes I do agree with you. We do know ourselves better than others. After all we know how we think and feel about different matters. We know what we really want out of life, career, relationships etc. Sometimes though we do need the help of other people to help us reach our goals. But it is we ourselves who know what is in our heart and mind.

Yes, I agree with your statement as well, although we know ourselves better, we still need other people to help us in reaching our goals, because no man's an island. Thanks for the reply! :D

In my psychology class I learned about the Johari window. According to that theory there are 4 different parts of a person: The open area, the blind area, the hidden area and the unknown area. The open area consists of things about yourself that you know and other people also know. The blind area consists of things about your that other people know. You don't know those things. The hidden area consists of things that you hide from other. You know those things but other people don't know them. The unknown area consists of things that neither you nor other people know.
If I look at myself I think my hidden area is quite large. There are things about me that most people don't know for instance things about my past. It is hard to say something about the blind area because it consists of things that other people know and I don't know. I think that other people sometimes notice things about my behaviour that I don't notice, and through conversations with other people I can sometimes increase my knowledge about myself, but I still think that I know myself better than other people know me. I often write about my thoughts and experiences in my diary and that it is way to get to know myself better.

Absolutely, no one would know yourself better but you, yourself. Even with close friends if possible we don't divulge everything about ourselves, there's a limit of what we want them to know about us, I guess even with partners and family members.
There are times too that we, ourselves don't know what we are capable of, not until we discovered it.

I don't think that there is anyone else who knows you better than yourself. Your inner thoughts, you are the only one who is aware of that not unless you tell them what you think.

We definitely know ourselves better than any person;sometimes we live with the impression that we still have a lot to discover in ourselves,so we try to spend some time alone in search of our identity.I think there are also cases when others have the impression they know us very well, but their perception is completely different from the way we are because we sometimes tend to behave in an unnatural manner, which doesn't correspond to the way we really are,or we simply don't manage to communicate enough with others to make them see how we really are.Anyway,I'm convinced most of us still can't say that they know everything about themselves, but maybe that's one of the most exciting things about human personality,to be able to discover new things about yourself from time to time.

I came at a point in life where I'm alone and just have my family around. During those times, I get to know myself well. People I have mingled with comment here and there but when I get to know myself, their comments are just comments. They are free to judge me all they want but at the end of the day, I knew who I really am.

Hello aggregated. I don't think another person, no matter who they are, would know me better than myself. Nobody else knows all my thoughts. Nobody knows every conversation I ever had. Not one single person knows every single thing I have done in my life. You have to know yourself better than others.

Yes yes yes ! I am in the same boat as you . For me, I have no best friend. I do not tell everything to my mom who is closest to me. No one knows better tham I am. Like you, I most of the time talk to myself. Ask myself this and that and I answer myself, privately of course. :)
For example, if I am angry with someone/something, I will cool myself down by talking to myself and I get back to my senses eventually.
In my other opinion, God knows much much better than I am . He knows what is best for me.

I use to think that I know myself.'
But circumstances taught me more and I came to discover more about me.

I think you sound very positive there is not too many that enjoy their own company, I enjoy being by myself just to reflect like you thinking of what I have done and where I am going. Of course when I am really lost then I ask for God's guidance as he is the only one who really knows us better than ourselves.

I think we should understand yourself better instead of others deciding it. Infact I dont like people saying "I understand you better". Are they going to be with us for a lifetime to know how we are???
So I would say I understand myself better than anyone else

nobody knows about you than anybody else. there might be few things which might not be visible to you but if you sit and think for a while you can definitely explore yourself. do meditation you will learn about you more. yes in certain situations family members and friends helps us to know about ourselves a bit. but ultimately you are the boss for you........

I do agree with you on this. I personally think that every person alive has their own demons. I know for a fact that nobody in this world knows me better than myself, people act like they know more about me than myself. I have a very dark past that haunts me to this very day, and the only person that I have told about my past is the love of my life. She knows quite a bit about me but she doesn't know what I've been through and I don't know what she's been through. I honestly just want times to myself to reflect, just like yourself, friends and family...yes they do know a lot about you but they haven't walked in your shoes..and because of that thy have no right to judge
