Why Do So-Many Christians Believe that Heaven Is a Place?

I'm sure there's 'scrolls-&-scrolls' of Scripture you can point to that somehow "convinces" people that it's a place. To which I respond, 'Right; it's up there above the sometimes-blue/sometimes-cloudy/sometimes-black-with-sparkles dome, right? Where we'll go if we're not thrown off of the edge of the world when we pass-on (when we'll fall off the world's flat surface into the bottomless pit beside it), right?' (i.e. The Scriptures were written back when 'science' & 'observation' were "evil." Fear Hell like you fear werewolves & vampires & Frankenstein's monster; Hope for Heaven like you hope for CANDY LAND.)

I would rather be surprised that there was no hell than to be surprised if there was no heaven. No heaven no hell. I do not want to be shocked that there is a heaven and I missed it because I would not believe in it because all that is left is the Lake of Fire and I sure want to miss that. If there is a heaven there is a Lake of Fire.

It is "not from this world", which means it is outside our universe.

mythociate I always find it fascinating what people believe. Thing is we don't know so the interpretations are varied and who is to say who is right and who is wrong? I think that too is a great lesson from the Bible..'judge not' I have come to believe that whatever is beyond this life is a mystery to us all and in our present comprehension levels we can't possibly figure it out since it is beyond words. Some say the visions people have at deaths are brain chemicals..how do they KNOW?? They don't...

What causes people to believe some old book over what they see & hear right in front of them?

If you are right Myth, then there is nothing to fear for as if I understand you there is nothing after you die so no problem. Drink and be Merry. You might even live longer by not worrying about whether you are living right. What I wonder is, if you should wake after the 1,000 years the Bible talks about and your life is flashed before you, who are you going to blame and what will you do about it? There will be no restrictions to what you can do except for your ability. I know the Bible says we will be changed for those in the first resurrection but I am not sure about those in the second. Maybe Satan can give them strength as he plans on gathering all those who are raised to attack the New Jerusalem. Maybe he won't need all those who went to the grave in their old age because there will be so many who never accepted Christ as their savior.

" The Kingdom Of Heaven" I assumed it was a place. To hear Christians , I picture a Christians only club. But to me , heaven is a state of mind. The lucky ones get to experience it here on earth.

Heaven has to be the most boring place outside of this world! How much fun could there be in walking on streets paved with gold? Would sitting at the right hand of God forever, be that exciting? Choirs of angels maybe, depending on which Hymn they were singing. Not for me though- I love to work, give me a shovel and a pile of coal, and I'll stoke the fires of Hell!

With more study you would find that you would be doing many other things.

Not only Christians, but other religions too believe that heaven is a place. Whatever karma good/bad you did in your life time, you are answerable. More good you did more chances to be in heaven. It is like a boomerang, everything comes back to you, good or bad. These are all beliefs, its up to you to believe or not.

I pity you, if you believe you're somehow outside of Heaven
