Okey i consider myself as a very good English speaker. I have grown up in a multicultural country and the one language that was always used for all the people to communicate was English. Foreigners and natives alike. So i can easily understand all kinds of English accents. Bulagrian, Indian, Pakistan, Romanian, you name it i have heard it and tried to decipher it :P With my favorite best being American accent, of course. But there is/are English accents i cannot stand. I don't hate them. I just cannot understand them and they tend to be annoying. British, Scottish and Irish. I mean is it so fing difficult to pronounce words? Is it like some sort of a tongue-issue thing? Its really just gibberish to me. Every second or third word is a known unknown word. Does anyone else have the same issue as me?

Can you speak English with an Aussie accent? Is it in speaking the English accents you have the most difficulty with or pronouncing the words like they do? The English typically speak with the very front of the mouth, the Aussies with the middle & the Americans kinda right out the back of the mouth. So, perhaps you're trying to do it the wrong way? If the problem is with hearing, try watching lots of British comedies.

Really? The American accent is clearer than that spoken in the UK? Well, I can't tell you to give up speaking with an American accent, but if you would broaden your horizons, so to speak, you may find many more opportunities open up for you & you life becomes better. My experience is that the British accents are clipped out in precise syllables so that even if you cannot quite understand the words being said at the time, one is still left with their impression in a percussion-like manner, which can be revisited in your mind's eye once the sentence is over. I find it much easier to lip-read a British accent than an American accent & sometimes even some Aussie accents.

Exactly what you said. "even if you cannot understand the words being said at the time, one is still left with their..." That's the thing. Even if i do understand what is said in the British accent it takes a few seconds to sort of "sink in". With American it sinks in instantly as the other person is speaking. So its much easier to understand stuff when i dont have to understand the previous sentence while the next sentence is being spoken, if you know what i mean... :)

No i can't do the Aussie accent either, but i can understand it. The English i speak is American. Clear pronounciations, understandABLE. Well both. But for the same reason. The way that the Brits pronounce the words makes it hard to impossible for me to speak and understand their accent/s. Because the way words are writen to the way words come out of their mouths are two differend things. I am not really trying to do it in any specific way. It's just that naturally i speak with the American accent(i'm not American nor is English my native tongue). And as far as i am concerned its the most correct way simply because its the closest English accent you will find to the writen word. Yeah im sure it would help me to watch British movies and shows and such, but i dont really want to try and do that because that would naturally change my American accent and the way i talk. And i dont see a reason for doing that. I mean even when you talk to any person who doesnt know English that well it's much easier for them to understand you Clear American accent rather than your Non-Understandable British accent. :P :)

Hi, You are right. Sometimes it is very difficult to understand the accent. I am Indian. I always find it difficult to understand the accent in Hollywood movies. If there are subtitles then I can understand the words they speaking. I can't speak English fluently but I can understand English very well. But accent problem is a big problem for me.

emm i think you misunderstood me a little. Holywood movies are not a problem for me. I mean the American accents are fine, i understand them just fine. It is the British accent. As in the United Kingdom accent that i have a difficulty understanding. :)

Hello LegalAlien! Hahaha! I must say, that some British accents get to me. You know how different parts of America have different accents? Well certain accents from different parts of England do annoy me. I also cannot stand the real outback Australian accent. I am an Australian but I don't talk like those annoying outback people. "Put a snag on the barbie love so we can have some tucker." Makes me cringe I hate it! Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

Yeah British English is the original. The Queens English. But still that fact doesn't really make it any more understandable. Maybe it's growing around American movies and music that makes it easier to understand American. Anyway however i turn it those British, Scottish and Irish accents are just terrible for me to understand. They were terrible back when my English wasnt so good. And have stayed consistently terrible no matter how good i got at speaking the language.
