I just found out that Stephen King's other son now has a book out. I've known about Joe Hill for quite a while and I've read two of his books and really really enjoyed them. Now his other son Owen King has a book out called Double Feature I think. I think I might have to check it out and see if I enjoy that just as much. Has anyone read books by either one of his sons? What are your thoughts and opinions on them? Do you think it helps them to get book deals having a famous father?

Don't like horror so I've never gotten into Stephen King nor the movies of his books. Are the other two authors writing similar books on horror like stories? Perhaps my hubby would be interested as he likes Stephen King. I'm sure having a famous father (or any other relative) helps get them into the business and the publicity they may not receive if they were just a schmoe starting out. As I feel that way about another celeb hubby likes I keep telling him the only reason he's in the business is he's a "legacy" and has an automatic in to the world with opportunity / means to get there where as the rest of us would have to have huge investments and talent to even get started.

Joe Hill writes similar to Stephen King. I think his only two novels out so far are Heart Shaped Box, and Horns. I bought and like both of those. Now Owen King from what I can figure out his book Double Feature is suppose to be a comedy. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

Also I have a couple of short stories on my Kobo that Stephen King and Joe Hill wrote together. One of them is called Throttle, I can't remember what the other one is off hand.

I didn't even know his sons are writers as well, only knew his wife is... Might check them out if I ever find the books someplace. It might help them getting started what with the famous father, but everyone still needs their own talent of writing so their books sell... I think.

yes his wife is too though I haven't heard of her having anything new out in a while. Not that I've really checked. I really recommend Joe Hill's Horns.

My favourite novel of Stephen Kings is Desperation, which reminds me I must get that book out of the library again, I have forgotten the storyline, but remember that I couldn't put it down. I didn't realize he had two sons, following in their father's footsteps, are they writing the same genre as their father?

Oh Desperation was so good. Loved it. A friend of mine ended up making me take her copy of the book too because when she was reading it she drove by a coyote siting on the side of the road and it creeped her out. So she didn't want to throw the book out but she didn't want to keep reading it either. So now I have two copies of the book. Joe Hill is writing the same genre as his father. He has at least two books out now. Heart Shaped Box and Horns. I really enjoyed both of those. He has also written a couple of short stories with his father that I have gotten from the Kobo store. One of them is called Throttle I can't remember off hand what the other one is called. From what I can tell though Owen King writes comedy maybe. I don't know for sure I didn't read a whole lot into it but it might still be a good read even though it's not really my type of book that I would normally pick out. I still might give it a go just so I can say I did.

I have to admit that I never knew about the fact that Stephen King's sons were authors as well, but now that I know that I might have to check them out and see what kind of talent that the two of them have. Concerning your question about their having more opportunities because of the fact that they have a famous father, I really do think that you are on to something there. I believe there are a lot of great writers out there that never get a publishing deal because they are not well-known. However, if a person has famous parents they definitely have connections that the rest of us do not have.

If you are a fan of Stephen King you really should check out Joe Hill. Though he is definitely different from King they are in the same genre. I really recommend Horns. I haven't read Owen King myself yet so I can't recommend him yet but I say it can't hurt to check him out. I know I will be.

I haven't read any of their books but I'm sure having a famous father has helped them in many areas of their life. After all if we were famous or very successful in some area we would use that to help our child/ren to do what they would like too.

I guess they also have an edge to be like their father of course higher expectations from them and giving the benefit that their father is famous their father's fans will also be interested to read their novel for sure, like me ;) hehe

I never knew Stephen King had kids...I guess I never thought about it. I have always enjoyed his books and movies. I like the way he always puts himself in a movie for a cameo role. I've never read anything his sons wrote but I'm sure they are good. I don't think their being his son helps any. Whatever they put out has to be good enough to be published favous father or not!

Yes I love his cameos. A friend and I use to play a game we made up called spot king. We would rent movies that we hadn't seen before and try to find him doing his cameo. My favorite is the newer version of The Shining when he is a conductor in the band.

Some guys are certainly like their fathers. Somehow, they are impressed and influenced by daddy. Stephen King is an excellent author and his horror stories are truly frightening. I have read a few of his books. However, I have not read any of the books written by his son.
