Today my daughter came for diner with baby Sofìa. She is 2 ans 1/2, but she is still my baby. My daughter at one point wanted to go to buy something nearby and I did not want Sofìa to miss her mom and start to cry. So I told her that we could see animal pictures at the computer. I thought I would get photos at Google, but I even gor videos with animals living free. Sofìa was elated and we both had fun. Our favorite was a video where an elephant mom helped her baby get out of a very muddy water. Have you tried computers as babysitting help? What other ideas could you give to entertain a small child for some time? Share.

Having fun together in any way is important to bond with our loved ones.

I did when my kids still toddlers. Especially when the weather bad outside and we couldn't take a walk or play outside. Now they are into that nook tablet for reading. My dad once told me that little kids sometimes like cats, they can play hours with simply cardboard box. Hahaha, and they do. Especially box that big enough for them to get in .

True about children. But children now are more sophisticated than what we were. I didn`t even have TV when I was little, but we had radio and I had my books.

Although I never had kids of my own, I have observed kids that were using computers from a very young age. My brothers both had their young children knowing how to turn on a computer and get into certain programs by the time they were three and they were playing educational games by that time. It is a great way to get them interested in the world by showing them videos or learning games where they can see letters or numbers to go along with the pictures so they actually learn something. I know when I had that family living with me last year, their five year old was doing some games on my computer and learning a little about reading. That was an advantage to her because she didn't have the exposure to computers before she was living with me so it was not good for her. I hope that all kids are able to have that kind of opportunity in the near future. Have a great week!!!

That't really neat! My niece was the same way when it came to learning Korean. She taught herself most of what she knows from the internet and then most of her classmates when she was an exchange student in China were from Korea so she was able to practice speaking with them. I do like reading on the internet more than real books now because most of the time because I don't have to worry about where to keep books when they are all on the computer. Have a great week!!!

Although I`m still parcial to real books ( a sign of age, I suppose) I am amazed at how children learn things by using a computer. One of my grandsons was a computer addict when he was a child. once my daughter took him to a guitar concert and he discovered what he wanted. He taught himself the first lessons in guitar playing and music theory. Now he is stydying to be a musician.

Congratulations for being a grand parent. Children like being with grand parents. This was the case even long before televisions and radios were invented. Tell them stories, sing songs for them...and they lough their heads oooofffff...they learn something about their culture...great...what schools cannot teach them.

It's cute your granddaughter loved animal photos and videos. She can learn so much about animals through them. If you go on youtube, you could find episodes of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and such if you want further computer entertainment. Bubbles and balloons are every entertaining for little ones.

I happened to see my friend using his tablet to keep his kid occupied during a church meeting. His kid was sitting beside him using the tablet for games and viewing educational kids video shows (however, it is without sound only pictures). Through the whole session of the meeting, his kid was so engrossed with it and did not make a little noise.

Although most of the time I feel that computers have taken our lives from us (I`m hooked to it) there are times when they are irreplaceable. These are such times.

Sofia is 2 and a half but, as her mom is not a computer fan as I am, she does not play with her on the computer. My daughter prefers to buy those CDs for children that teach them the colors, numbers and the life. But she also watches cartoons on TV.

Yes, I did this once with my eldest grand daughter. She was about the same age and a bit clingy to her mother. It really worked and distracted her until her mother returned. A good introduction too to the computer

Kids today are being amused with computers, laptop, tablets, cellphones and ipad.
Almost all of the gadgets. I admit I bought my daughter a tablet for her to use, and now she knows how to read.
She started reading when she turned 3. Thanks for the applications, it really helped my daughter in her education.

My brother and sister-in-law barely allow their children to use the computer at all and so when they come over to my house, one of the things that they want to do the most is that they want me to put the computer on games that they like to play and that is something that I will gladly do for them. I am not trying to use the computer as a baby sitter, but I do know that the computer is something that does give them a lot of enrichment.

I agree with you that computer will not replace a person, but it can help entertain them and teach them.

Hi friend, good to know that you used computer for baby sitting. Most of the time my wife will teach my son using her computer. Kids can learn lessons easily while using computer and they will learn the lessons with their full interest while seeing the videos, picture and listening the music

Nowadays it is very important to have a computer around (and internet, of course)in order to study well. We also are learning every day from internet, no matter what little it is.
