there are beggars everywhere. here in rome they are mostly found in the subways and other public transports. most of them even take babies with them so the others would have more pity on them.
i very seldom give money on these people. begging has become a profession to most of them. they know that they earn more money by doing this rather than having a normal job.
i know that there are some charity institutions where they can find shelter and comfort if they really want to but most of them want to remain on the streets. they just go to these places when the weather is bad and they return when it improves.

no, i'm not italian. i migrated here ten years ago. i'm a filipina.
yes, i agree with you. rome is beautiful. it has many beautiful old buildings and museums. tourists pay lots of money to see rome. i know where most of the tourist places are but i haven't really been to most of them.
last year my friend and i went to paris and we spent three days going to museums and roaming the city.
i'm guess i've taken for granted my situation. i always say to myself that these hostorical and beautiful places in rome won't go away so i'll just visit them later but i never do.

I don't usually give them money. If if have some food or candy that is what I give.
I don't get scared at them, because I don't percieve them as scary or crazy of course if they do not look like one.
I have known from some local government about their program of this beggars. They were given free livelihood projects but most of these beggars went back on asking alms instead of working a decent job all because they can get more money asking than working. Some of them also tend to be lazy and just wanted to earn fast cash.

I don't like people that judge the beggars and homeless but indeed there are a number of them that are indeed there because of drinking problem or because they didn't want to move on or something, others might be there for a very sad story that brought them to that situation, either way we cannot judge someone in need but I think the best is not to give money but give them goods and it has to be brand knew to not humiliate because they are people, like I never give money but I buy a nice meal.
The government have shelters I heard, I'm not sure how it is like but maybe they should give a place for them to sleep everyday instead of whoever gets first in the shelter have a place to spend the night.

As a social human being can not be separated from assistance of others, would have become commonplace if we help each other. But in this case give something to beggars is an attitude that supports the existence of beggars continuity itself. It would be better if we further empower them to strive and work independently and do not hang on others.

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. I agree that we should work hard and earn something more than begging. Begging is not good. I am also from a poor family. Am as same to beggar. But I do my days job and earn for my family. They should also work and earn. For poor and blind.. Disabled people, governent should also provide some work so that they could earn their living.
Unfortunately.... There are lots and lots of beggar are increasing day/day and...due to Growth of population... We find very hard to get food.. Work and so... We shoul help beggars.... At-least provide them one time meal. Then you will be pleased.

Hi,
In our country there are many beggars. I don't give money to beggars. But sometimes I give food to eat to them who are old or disabled. I never give alms to beggars who are healthy. They can work and earn money.
