Yes, that is most likely the reason. A lot of people proved to be depressed or saddened by whatever they see on their Facebook: friends who have good jobs, friends who buy new stuff, friends who can travel anywhere, friends who have something that they don't. It's just a matter of perspective because whether it is bragging or mere sharing, we can never control what those people do or post on Facebook, but we can surely control how we feel and how we act on it. We can get envious of what they have, and then use it as an inspiration to work harder to be able to afford something like that as well. And then some, become envious and just feel so bad about their situation.

That's really strange. I also don't know why you feel sad every time you visit your facebook, where in other people or most people nowadays are enjoying it. Have you had experienced something negative before in facebook like being cheated, bullied or something like that? Well, I believe facebook is not for everyone.
