Canada doesn't want to be the United States and the United States doesn't want to be Canada.

Because they are different. Oh, it may be hard for an outsider to see, heck, its hard for some in the States to see, but ask ANY Canadian and they will tell you that there is a BIG difference!
AND
If Canada should EVER, for whatever bizarre reason, decide to join the U.S., then Quebec really would become its own nation!

I bet a bunch of people have come on here already and listed lots of reasons why they are not the same. There are a lot of similarities, but we are not the same. There's the French part of Canada for one thing, different governments, universal health care up there, it's colder, they still have ties to the UK that we don't have, and they pronounce "about" like "aboot" instead of "abowt". lol

Of course, there are also differences such as rich and poor, hard work and laziness. But even here, we can see that everybody wants to be rich and nobody wants to be poor. Nobody wants hard work and everybody wants laziness. So,we are equal humans.

The reason that The United States and Canada are two different countries is because of all of the treaties that went on during the colonization of North America. The United States was settled basically by the British while Canada was originally settled by the French. Yes, we might speak the same language and we might practice many of the same religions, but there are still fundimental differences between the two countries and it wouldn't make sense for me for the two countries to merge into one.

My birthday is American Independence Day which is 4th July. I know Canada Day is 1st July and I was there to celebrate that in 2010. Some areas of Canada are French speaking and others are English speaking. They have totally different history to each other.
I have been to the USA in 1993, 2001 and 2002. I went to Canada in 2010. I can get a visa wavier to go to the USA flying in there and then going back home. It wasn't possible for me to travel overland from Vancouver to Seattle in 2010. I would have needed a visa for me and my children would have too.
Many countries in Central America and South America speak Spanish. They are separate countries with their own history and traditions. Belize is English speaking and Brazil is Portuguese speaking Ex Russian places interest me. Like in 2008 I went to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. This year I will be visiting the Ukraine and Moldova.

There are many differences between the U. S. and Canada. Some areas of Canada have a dual language, English and French. Canada has something approaching socialized medicine while the U. S. does not; although Obama and the Democrats would like for it to. Most Canadians would forcefully exert that the U. S. and Canada are not the same. The history is very different, also. I don't know a lot about religion in Canada, but it is probably a little diverse. But my guess is that it is not nearly as diverse as in the U. S. The U. S. has Catholics, Protestants(and several types of them), Muslims, Mormons, and many more that I can't even think of.

The US isb't exactly like Canada. We do have a lot of similarities, but also a lot of differences. We don't have a lot of the same history for instance, a lot of Canada speaks French and the last I knew Canada was a subject of England. The US was a subject of England a long time ago, and then we fought a war for our independence.

Canada and the US are not the same thing, they have similar cultures, but very big differences, same with religion, and history. There are not the same people period. Canada is a very very diverse country, we are made up of basically every country, we have people immagrating here regularly. I have talked to many and loads of them would never go to the US, because of how they are run, and the cultures.
