Hi Guys! Glad to be back! I was lucky with the weather whilst at Mum's as it was very cold for the time of year but - nonetheless - sunny for a lot of the time, ideal for getting out and about.
Anyway, as promised, I took photos of Mum's new lapis lazuli carpet on the stairs plus the L S Lowry print in the front room. I am very surprised about the carpet as it is VERY bright. I'm pleased, though, as it's about time Mum got some colour in her life lol. As for the print, the frame is exceptional (probably worth about £60 on AllPosters) so, to get the whole thing for £15, she's done very well, despite the frame being slightly dinted at the top.
If you notice the carpet DOES have a blue tinge to it. Very unusual, but I love it!
I will post a photo of the Lowry print further down the discussion.

Yes, the horses look like they belong there.

Thanks very much. The horse pic used to be where the Lowry print is but I reckon it looks ace in its new home, purely due to the colour of the carpet matching! It didn't half cheer me up going up and down the stairs lol.

Hiya Wolfie, lovely to see you again! As for the carpet, I couldn't believe how bright it was but over the few days I was there I DID get used to it and absolutely love it now. It's in the same range as the red one I have my heart set on, so from that point of view, it's awesome!

Now that IS a Lowry print. How spectacular. I love it. More than bargain. If she ever wants to sell it then.......

I've come back to see I've reached the $10 so I'm really pleased about that. I was only a few cents away but I didn't get the chance to go on a computer until now. Something to look forward to anyway.

Welcome back Janey. I really like your Mum's carpet. Blue is my favourite colour actually, and I can easily imagine sinking my bare feet into it. _Derek

I hope that you are nnow fully recovered. I just lovethis shade of blue and it is used a lot in my country. We need bright colours as the sun can make everything looked washed out. My friend has her house this colour. Is that the print at the bottom of the stairs? It didn't look like a lowry to me but my memory had gone to pot

What happened with the Lowry was Mum decided to place it where the horse picture used to reside, i.e. the front room. Sorry for the confusion. If you look in the top box you will see the Lowry print.

It's taken her a while to get into colour but she did have that colour in the back room at one time and I was disappointed she painted over it. However, this new carpet (albeit on the stairs and landing) has made up for that. I think the picture (horses) looks great in its new home as well.

It's amazing what a bit of colour can do isn't it? It certainly brought a smile to my face, I must say!

Having that color matched with a bright painting would really light up the house. And of course, having flowers, too can make it lovelier.

Nice. My mother used to have a carpet that color in her living room years ago. Personally I am no fan of carpet because they are a lot of work to keep clean. And my mothers carpet got real dirty really fast. And it started to look horrible. Even after many times of cleaning it. But, I do hope that it is a low maintenance carpet and easy to clean. Tell your mother good luck.

Well, there's two things to consider here. It's going up the stairs and - secondly, the bathroom is downstairs, so no going up and down the whole time. No way would she have this carpet in the living-room, for example. In fact, she gets on her hands and knees and brushes the damn thing. I told her she won't be able to do that when she's 80!

You told her right. She will need to get a real good carpet cleaning machine. But believe me, over time it will start showing its age. My mother used to rent a machine and even had a company come and do it for her. But nothing seemed to work for that rug. She now has hardwood floors. Way easier to keep clean. I was looking online for my stairs. I want to replace that old rug of mine. So I found a few things that they put on stairs now. And they do have those pergo type floors boards as caps for the steps. I am still looking into it. And I might just do that. Or I will just rip the rug off, get some good paint and those stair grips. Again, tell her good luck with her new carpet.

I'm the same my friend. It's definitely the brightest carpet Mum has ever purchased but the effect is amazing. It's very good quality too so should last a VERY long time!

Hiya Hatley. Glad you like the colour. It's unusual isn't it and I believe the manufacturers (Ryalux) are known for their coloured carpets. After seeing Mum's stair carpet I can see why! It's lovely! I'm desperate for the red version now!
Yes, I did have a nice time, thanks. The weather helped as I've been there for a week in the past and it rained practically the whole time. This trip was a more successful one, weather wise. I didn't spend an awful lot of money though which is why I've still got money in my account to buy things like another Whirly Lamp and a couple of books. The former I'm really pleased about as I've bought it for £27 as opposed to £80. Can't believe my luck!

The carpet is a lovely shade of blue, it looks really nice. the horse picture goes really well with it as well, and the lowry is absolutely lovely.
You must have been really pleased when you saw it, and seeing what good choices your mum had made.

To be honest, I was gobsmacked but deep inside, very happy indeed. It's obvious this colour has a brilliant effect on Mum's mood which I know is silly but having a house full of beige isn't going to cheer anyone up, is it?
I couldn't believe the Lowry frame either! That alone is worth a lot of money, in my opinion.
I'm kicking myself because we went into an Age Concern Charity Shop that sells furniture and the like..and I spotted a pair of Japanese lady prints in blue. They were only £8 each and would look fabulous in a bedroom. I dithered and didn't buy them.
Wish I had now as they had decent frames (also in a light blue) but, never mind, I'm sure I will get the chance to buy some of my own prints eventually, online or otherwise.

Hi friend, I think your mother is right. I love the color of carpet, it is so match with the color of the wall and some painting that hanged on the wall throughout the stair. It is very nice, I think. Have a nice day.

Thanks very much. Her previous carpet was a nondescript beige colour and it wore out in no time. Wasn't cheap either so Mum made sure - this time - she bought something she knows is going to last plus a brighter colour. It's amazing how bouncy it is underfoot as she does have some decent underlay there.
