I Haven't Eaten Meat for a week

I don't really know why but I just don't fancy it. I also haven't eaten chicken or pork or anything that once possessed a face I really don't know what the matter is with me. I haven't eaten fish either but was thinking that I should cook a white fillet of some fish that I have in the freezer.I'm not much of a fish eater apart from a white fillet or smokes salmon. Salmon is sky high to buy. Amazingly, I am not eating much bread either so I do hope that I begin to lose the weight that I have gained since I returned home. Eleven pounds But I am eating. I have the coarsest oats porridge for breakfast made with skimmed milk and then I put in a teaspoonful of honey and then douse it in cinnamon. Then I may have steamed vegetables with turned cornmeal ( my daughter says that I must start to call it Polenta as it sounds better) or vegetables with rice. It is mango season so I have a few of those too. Yesterday I curried a huge pot of different kinds of dried bean and added carrots, onions and tomatoes and a few potatoes to thicken the gravy. Tasted so good and enough for me today too. I drink loads of water laced with apple cider vinegar but no honey. Really odd. Of course, the twins are not here for me to cook for so I don't know if this is the reason or if my taste buds have gone nuts. I mean - what is there not to like about pork? Have your eating habits changed in any similar to mine?

Congratulations! There's nothing wrong with you. It's just natural progression, or maybe evolution - depends upon what you believe. Most people change their diets with a real mental resolve, but for others, it's just going on their feeling. Nothing wrong with that. Just learn all you can about how to prepare your food correctly & make sure you get a balanced intake of fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains, legumes & nuts - usually in that order. Also learn about all the harm that animal products do to people - all the statistics & everything. Meat is the world's biggest killer, I kid you not! You might also, if you can afford to do so, take yourself or your family out to a quality vegan eatery (which are usually much cheaper than the others) & see what they have on offer & ask for the recipes of anything you like - even if you don't buy anything. In my experience, vegan eateries owners are more than happy to share their recipes with you. All The Best.

There you go, Cynthiann! you got a congratulatory note already. Good luck!. By the way, veganbliss, when did you start going veggie? I have many of my peers who are pure veggies and at times I wonder if I should follow their habits or stick to mine, which is meat, Sunday through Saturday. I just cannot live without meat. Besides, I work out and friends suggest to eat more red meats to gain muscles. So if I have to go veggie I might probably abuse protein drinks and stuff.

Thank you. I live in Jamaica and actually the Rastafarians do not eat much meat and definitely not pork or use salt. Their food is basic - similar to mine without salt, and our doctors agree that their diet is healthy. Yes, if I am going vegan then I need to learn more about it and should use brown rice instead of white. I am going to explore this more. Do you eat fish?

Eating less meat and more vege, grains and nuts and fruits are good ! I do not cook pork at home, perhaps have it when eating out once a while. My son loves to eat chicken . So, I usually would cook more of chicken and no red meat. But, I do eat a lot of whole grain bread with oatmeal.

I used to make bread the old fashioned way when we lived on the farm and it was so good. I think that I will go online and try to download instructions on how to use the machine. I really fancy bread with oatmeal etc. I ate it in the U.K. last year but it is not available out here

Oh, that will be a waste then. Perhaps you may try go shopping one day see if you could find the same brand there and try find out from them how to use it. I do not have a bread making machine. So, my hubby will buy the bread on daily basis. It is convenient here to buy bread.

I think if it weren't for the kids and hubby, I could easily give up red meat at the very least. I prefer chicken anyway. I'd never give up bread though.. just couldn't do it.

Just don't fancy it. I am wondering if it is now that I have three friends with cancer. One was in remission for two years but she has secondaries now and is not doing well. This is not the one I took to the movies. Not sure if subconciously, this is the reason

I think it is good for you to not to have eaten for such a long time. I think most probably you will become healthy and will lose weight easily by choosing the diet plan. I think it is good to eat lots of vegetable and fruits.

I have been on vacation the last 10 days. I went to California for a week of it and we ate out alot........and I mean alot! So it's back to the way I eat at home. I tried my best to stick to my regular diet but it was hard. I seriously need to not eat out for a while. When I did get home I ate just soup for dinner for a couple of days. Too much rich and salty foods for my high blood pressure!

Sounds like you are eating very healthy. I have had meat each day and love it. I am especially partial to pork and fish. I got me some short breads and ate them the last few nights. We have been having fruit nearly every day which is different. Strawberries and blackberries so far. Usually we go for days with either vegetables or fruit. This time of year we will be eating a lot of fruit but probably not much vegetables. Just don't care for them except for broccoli, brussell sprouts, and a few others. Potatoes are about the only veg we eat.

Those fruits sound great. I think that I may be having a tad too much starch with all this oatmeal and cornmeal and some rice but just don't fancy meat - this could change but it is the way that I feel now

Mmmm- oatmeal and cornmeal sound good. I went through something in late 2009 that changed me. I just don't care anymore. I eat what I want. I may be sorry for it at some point but am sure enjoying it now. You have to do what makes you happy. Enjoy!

I agree with you. another GF of mine who is at least a dozen years younger than I am had surgery for cancer two years ago ansnow she has secondaries and not doing well, and another male friend is fighting to live too. Life just gets sad as we get older. Do what gives happiness is the right attitude as we do not know what disaster is going to happen in the next second!

Many struggle to stay away from meat but it has come naturally to you. I think your diet is perfect except that you could add some fish as it has omega3.

I wish I could have started a diet like yours, but with just enough money to use for our daily needs, the kids' food are much important. Well, I am not really fattening them up, but just giving them the right amount that they need as they are all boys who sometimes would be asking for more if they are not satisfied with just having veggies on the table.

Oh, I well remember the days with three teenage sons who would consume 14 loaves of bread a week. They were always hungry!!! No, they would not be happy with just begetables and starch alone

This is really admirable of you! I am trying to avoid meat as much as I can myself, a little hard as my family is not vegetarian and loves eating meat. It is not right that other animals die for our food preferences when we can subsist on vegetables. It is healthier to eat vegetables anyway.

good that you havent eaten any non veg for past 1 week. you are actually doing good for this environment, do you know tons and tons of methane gas gets produced due to pig rearing. if you stop eating meat you can save environment that being one reason but the most important thing is that you should stop eating meat not just for 1 week but for the rest of your life because they are also living creatures which have right to live in this world. so lets be kind to all living things in this world and make this world a better place to live in

ya i understand. no one can change their habbits just like that. but what we can do is try to change our habbits gradually. but after all it all depends on you. if you have the there is a way. but if you think you like eating meat so much then there is no harm in it atleast we can teach the next generation kids not to eat meat.

It may be something that you are needing to do. I am more familiar with craving rather than not wanting things. I know when you leave sugar out of your diet you begin not to want it, and that may be true of breads as well. I have never heard that about meat. When my sister was ill with cancer there were things that she not only did not want, but also found sickening. I know that in the summer I want different foods. It could be you missing the twins, too.

Yes, the twins may be part of it as their mother did not return them yesterday. She is evidently staying a few more weeks on the Island. I do miss them though - very much. Perhaps it is this - I don't know

Could be related to that as I haven't cooked any of the dishes that I would have cooked if they had been here. Maybe the uncertainty? Their chalk boards and scooters were deliverd to them today and their bikes went last week. It is the not knowing that is getting to me I think.

I use to eat meat with every meal, I now rarely eat meat. I will get about $25 in meat a month, and spread it out. Sometimes it will last longer, I had a little pork tonight, and will eat the leftivers tomorrow, then wont have meat for a number of weeks.

There is nothing wrong with you. I've gone off meat too. I still eat it but only occassionally. I also can't give up milk but I have less and buy soy and almond milk too now for shakes and to add in my tea etc. I think some people are just coming into a realisation that we don't need meat. I think your body is telling you it wants a break, might even be a permanent break
