it's still a month before the election day but there's already vote buying in our place. yesterday, my cousin was asked by someone who she will vote as mayor, she said "this person". she was immediately given P500 in cash. no papers to sign. she was just asked to vote for the other candidate. just like that.
according to my mom, there really was this woman going around pretending to eb doing surveys. but she didn't entertain her because she was busy doing the laundry.
i actually think it's still too early to buy votes for the elections, but i do believe that the candidate who did this don't believe he/she will win the elections. and they are usually the corrupt ones we should never vote.

Well, don't be surprised. Things like this does happen since time immemorial especially during election season. Candidates will employ all means possible just to win, no matter how dirty or immoral thos tactics may be. It's sad but that's the reality we have to face in this society.

it's reality and somehow people have learned to accept it that they don't do anything about it. so sad they it diminishes the true meaning of the elections.

Politics is dirty to begin with. And worse, people are still falling for the same tricks every election.
Last night, I saw 3 buses full of people from slum areas. Being nosy, I asked some passers-by and they said it's for a proclamation rally or something of a particular candidate who pays people to attend.

My husband once run for a position in our community. And I have seen how his fellow candidates would give money to those people who used to be living on our barangay but was already relocated by the government that time. We knew that my husband was a lot popular than that candidate because my husband is a very friendly person and since he was a kid, he was always outside of the house talking to people. But with his campaign, my in laws did not give him lots of money. We never had the option of buying votes of the people. Obviously, we lost. Money talks.

In all honesty, I was really not in favor of his running for the post. But somehow I saw how much he could help the people. And eventually, I felt the need to also extend my help if ever he gets to be elected. It's just so sad, that people take advantage of their wealth just to be on a post.

he could still help the community in his own little way without authority. that's the purest form of service for me.

well i'm sad for your husband's bid for the elections but it's really not your family's lost. it's the voters and constituents.

Wow.. i think i heard of something similar on tv.. Although it was a shock that they did not wait until the actual election, since some of them want proof or a certainty that they would really vote. If it were me, i would accept it, but then vote for the one i want, nt the one who gave me money...no harm in that.

wow, at this early, there's already vote buying at your place!
That woman even if she knows that she will be marked as cohort for the candidate has no shame. Openly, she does the vote buying.
Here in our place, usually the candidates through their paid coordinators would pass sample ballots with money on the day before the election.
But i think this time, it would be in a lesser amount, because here in our province and city the mayor is unopposed as well as the governor. They are very good officials indeed, that no one tried running to oppose them .

How can they be sure that you will vote for them even after paying you? Anyway you are right it is wrong. Unfortunately it exists in one form or another wherever you go. Candidates may not openly "buy" votes but they make promises such as tax cuts or goodies which are also ways to buy votes.

some give vouchers for philhealth, rice, and educational assistance. i think it's a subtle form of vote buying.

Yeah, vote buying is very common in our country.. because people still accept it.. We are both at fault.. the politician and the people. but that is quite weird, are they so sure that the people will vote them without proof and give them money just like that?

well, it is stupid of the politician if he believes that person will vote for him. my cousin will definitely vote for that candidate.

So why not just get all the things they are giving out, "oh yeah I'll vote for you you, count on me" and not vote for them during actual elections , we should never vote for these people, and when they lose despite there vote buying then they would think twice before they do it again, let's make it ineffective and costly for them by getting their money and at the same time not voting for them

that's really sad because it's the highest position in your country. what was the reaction of the general public? was there any revolt?

Hi friend, I agree with you. A candidate who buy vote, he will corrupt to return his money. We should not elect him. I never receive the money, because it means we have sell our welfare just on little money that we received. In my country, Indonesia, there are many candidates that buy vote. Unfortunately, there are many people who receive the money and pawn their welfare in the future on the money.

It is the oldest strategy of cheating. I live in the countryside where, I think, vote buying is more evident and prevalent. It's becoming more and more successful too. The main reason I can think of is that the condition of being "poor" or "in need". People in the provinces are perceived to be easily persuade of vote buying because it is easy money. You needn't to work hard for it. That's why vote buying is successful. There are people who chooses to sacrifice the consequence of all people than not having food for their families.

i also think these illegalities are more common in the provinces. mainly because there are a lot poor people there. you can really see because the provinces are usually ruled by clans for decades and yet still no progress.

If an election candidate will buy your vote it's already a sign that we should not vote them. If they are using their own money of course they will get back that money once they won the election. Who on earth will spend a lot of money and get nothing after? We all know that being a politician gives you a lot of power and wealth so we should think and vote wisely. If you really need the money, accept it. Just don't vote them because as what you have said you did not sign any papers. They cannot sue you in court for not voting them.

one of the reasons i did not vote for villar in the 2010 presidential elections is because he spent too much money on the campaign. well, it's easy to get it back once you're in the position.
