Suspended Coffee comes to our shores!

It's a story I first read on facebook, about people pre-ordering coffee for the less fortunate, and I think it originated in Europe, a cold continent. This is how it happens: some people, workers, most likely, orders coffee for themselves, but because they know that there are people out in the cold who need something hot to warm themselves, too, but cannot afford the coffee, these kind workers order coffee but suspend the order until about a destitute comes in and asks for one. Well then, now there is a humble coffee shop in Quezon City, that does the same. The indigents who were first offered the suspended coffee, were surprised, but cried, finding in their hearts that people are not so unkind after all, to the less fortunate as themselves. Two points to ponder: First, can't Starbucks and Figaro and Coffee Bean, and the like, afficionados do the same? Second, can the kind people make it suspended soup?

This would be a variant on the "Pay it forward" concept-I've read stories where people have gifted the price of a meal or paid the check for a random stranger they'd just met,or done just this-made a payment to cover the cost of the next deserving person to unwittingly come along.I read in the wake of the Sandy Hook School Massacre, that strangers from out of state wanting to contribute something to that community pledged money to local takeout businesses to benefit those in the area.. It would be a nice idea for it to catch on...

I think it is great that this practice has started! Other than coffees I hope it spreads to other foodstuff like soup like you said. However, I can understand that it is difficult for companies such as Starbucks to do it. Don't forget that it is a listed company which needs to keep proper accounts and report earnings etc. Consider all the uncertainties that suspended coffee will cause, for example how do you account for unclaimed coffee, as profit or liabilities? How do you know if claimants are unable to afford and need the coffee? With small unlisted companies it can be based on trust but if you are a listed company that needs to report to authorities and shareholders it is difficult to account for. They will find it easier to simply donate part of their profits to charity.

That is a nice concept in here and you are right I guess suspended soup might be much appropriate in our place since many destitute people realy does not need warm hot coffee but warm food to fill in their empty stomach. In Europe this may be appropriate since it is cold in their place and a hot coffee would indeed warm their bodies could help a lot. But I think that is a very good concept of social responsibility running in your business. I think businessmen should be thinking this way so we can somehow help these people alleviate from poverty in a small way.

It is great that suspended coffee is coming to the Philippines. Getting it for the poor and less fortunate is a very good idea indeed. I believe coffee or tea can be warming. The Philippines is a hot country so I wonder it will become popular. I live in England and coffee is a popular drink. It can be so cold in the winter time weather wise here. Good luck to the poor people in the Philippines.

This is the first time that I've heard about something like this. However, it is not beyond me as a person to decide to buy a little something extra when I go into the store to give to a beggar that I might have seen on the street. This is definitely something kind that people can do for another person and it is a simple act. The reason that I choose to partake in acts of kindness like this is because I would hope that there would be someone that would be willing to help me out if I was to find myself in a similar situation.

Suspended coffee? Suspended soup? I think suspended soup will do better. Since it is solid food, it makes the stomach feel fuller than filling it with coffee.
