From the airport into the city

Vancouver was like a dream come true with a metro train and then a wheelchair accessible bus to where we were staying in 2010. In 2011 it was upsetting to not find our check in luggage at the arrival airport on Colombia. We took a taxi to the hotel with just our hand luggage. We took a travelers bus service with one change in Argentina. We booked it on-line before we left our home country. Which kinds of transport have you traveled from the airport to the city? Which was your easiest one and which was your hardest one?

I have been fortunate in all the airports that I have flown to, From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport there are excellent links into the city, when we flew to Prague we got a taxi into the city, Cyprus and Rhodes it was part of a tour package, so a coach was laid on. Even when we flew to Berlin, there was the metro service to take us into the heart of Berlin. With London we are so spoilt for transport links.

I like flying into London's Stansted Airport,as it has a dedicated train service into Central London's Liverpool Street station. Stansted's platform is ramped all the way to/from the arrivals/departures area,so is very accessible. My only difficulty travelling til now has been getting too much baggage from the train to the airport terminal!

I'm fortunate enough to live in a city where the public transport provide for wheel chair service. Although I don't personally need it, I'm glad that people here are respected enough even with varying physical capabilities. It's refreshing to see and know that this kind of service is available to visitors too! It makes for a quick transport from airport to the city.

I have always opted for package tours where everything is taken care of. I do however remember an incident where because of a bus strike in London we had problems getting to the railway station. We were so late, that we had to literally run with our luggage. When I was in the US I spent a month or so with my family and friends after my package tour. I am a funk when it comes to maneuvering on my own and so I had asked my nephew to meet me at the airport to pick me up to go to his place. He said that I need to come to the parking lot where he would wait for me which would mean getting to the luggage area on my own which I was told was a herculean ask as the luggage area was miles away. Was I not relieved to see my nephew at the foot of the plane itself! He gave me a surprise. When he reached me back to the airport after my stay at his, I was in for a shock. The car parking area was miles away. We had to walk to the check in counter which was almost closing. I was treated as a suspect and my luggage held back. When I reached my destination at Newark we had to wait for the next plane to land as my luggage was loaded in that. These were the only instances that I had a bit of an adventure if I am might call them that!

The easiest for me is the taxi because there's an abundance here in the Philippines. Last December, my family and I went to Davao City to attend a close friend's wedding. Since we live in the country side, we have to ride a bus to go to Manila and be transported to airport by a taxi. Upon arriving at Davao City, I noticed a lot of taxis so we choose to rode it too. I find it convenient because taxi drivers are very knowledgeable around town so I can have "expert tips" on my travels.

I used to live in Vancouver. Now you're making me homesick. When we went to the airport first, we took the car and our sons drove it back. Now when we got to Vancouver, we had one of those transportation buses because we had to go all the way through down town and all the way to the cruiser lines and we hated it, at least, I did. So when we came back from the cruise as we were going to visit relatives - my youngest brother-in-law, we rented a car. I loved that much better. The bus was so cramped, no room to move, due to the cheapness of putting in an extra seat on each row.

I have to say the distance from the airport to the city center is the second longest one among all the provincial capitals of China. So there r only two ways for us to take, one is the airport bus(normal bus), and the other is car, there r few taxis who is willing to do so because it is a so long journey and it earns fewer than they r in the city center. It takes almost 1 hour by car, this is the hardest one so I hope someday, the government can launch some convenient polocies and give some good measures for this so that people here would no longer suffer this torment.

Very interesting topic of journey. I read your topics of journey with very interest. I think as if I'm your partner of your trips around the world. You are a modern "Sinbad". Where is your next voyage ?

Formerly I used to take a taxi carrying passengers for the next flight but when I have big luggage I take the taxi commissioned by the airport management and it is very costly more than triple the priced. The hardest way is when I'll take a jeepney ride that's if I have much time, but I enjoy doing that.
