We took help from someone to get my son's buggy up stairs we could travel on the metro from the airport to the bus station. At the bus station we were able to book an overnight bus to Argentina for the next day. Then we went to one of the cheap hotels and found a room was very economical. It was lovely to walk around that city which wasn't touristy. We were able to store our luggage after checking out. We took that overnight bus and it allowed us enough time for a day trip to Uruguay. The ferry over there was very pricey.
Can you think of some big cities which are very expensive?
Would you be keen to visit some less touristy places that have low prices?
Which was your most expensive day trip?

I have heard that Paris is very expensive, but I have never been there, I was put off France, by seeing Bolougne and Calais, Paris is seen as romantic. I don't like crowds so I would actually seek the less touristy places options. I have stayed right in the city of Prague and that was quite expensive if I remember rightly, but the plane fare was very reasonable which makes up for it.

The cities in Switzerland sound very expensive. When my husband and were travelling around in Europe for one month we talked about visiting Switzerland, and we looked up the prices online. Even the hostels and hotels with one star were expensive and we gave up the idea of visiting Switzerland. We found nothing below $100 and most places were much more expensive than that.
Papua New Guinea is expensive, too. There are a few rooms that cost about $100 per night, but most of the hotels cost between $200 and $400 or much more than that. In Asia I think that Japan is one of the most expensive countries. I would like to visit Japan, but it will probably just be a short trip because I couldn't afford to travel in Japan for a long time. Singapore also seems like an expensive place to visit.
I love to visit places that are less expensive. Things are often quite expensive in the capital and I love to visit some of the places outside the capital. In Estonia I visited several small towns outside Tallinn and I have done the same things in many of the other European countries I have visited.

Vancouver is quite expensive and so is Toronto. When we in the States, we stopped at this out of the way motel. I do not know the most expensive day trip, I think it was when we were on Vancouver Island.

Hello maximax. It is wonderful to find some cheap place in Brazil while traveling. I am sure that you must have a lot of wonderful and amazing experiences traveling in Brazil. Well, when I travel on my own, I usually try to find some cheap hotels and restaurants so that I can have more days to stay and spend. A cheap hotel is usually located in a backlane in the cities. I got to know this from my own experience. Enjoy your wonderful trip, maixmax.

For me, the cheaper it is the better. I don't care what city it is as long as I can explore and learn new things that is fine for me... I surely need the info about Brazil and the cheapest places there as I have plans to go there late this year. As for the expensive cities, I find Singapore to be expensive. They say Japan is the most expensive here in Asia but haven't been there yet.

From what I heard, pretty much every big city in Scandinavia is expensive. I only made it as far north as Copenhagen, and was pleased to find somebody at the train station who was renting out a room. We had planned to head to the youth hostel, as hotels there were very pricey.
I wouldn't mind a less touristy place that was cheaper as long as there was something to see and do.

It seems that cities and countries are cheaper and more expensive in different moments. I have gone twice to Camboriu in Brasil and found it quite unexpensive. The food was very good and you could eat all you wanted for little money. It helped though to make friends with a very nice brasilian who took us around. On the whole, I feel that Chile is now a lot more expensive than the rest of South America.
