I mentioned liking the smell of lavender. I guess I'm getting old lol. In fact, I like lavender so much I bought a plant, last week in Wilkinson's. Walking round the store with it was amazing. Now and again I'd get this great waft of lavender and I really did feel like lying down somewhere and having a kip. I guess it's going to grow some flowers on it, right? I haven't studied the card that came with it but I have watered it, along with everything else along the line. He will get some nice sunshine in his new location..when it finally decides to come out!

Careful it's easy to over water lavendar. Try adding a féw flowers to a salad, the colour is great and the taste is delish. Also try grinding some up and using instead of sugar.

Where I used to live we had a whole hedgerow of lavender, it was there when we first moved in, and the bees loved it, and the scent was lovely as you walked by, I wish I had taken a few cuttings with me, but because of the circumstance of how I left that wasn't on the top of my priorities! I do have some lavender on the rockery, I don't find it that easy to grow to be honest, I hope you have better luck with yours, I guess it depends on the type of soil it's planted in and the love, care and attention you give it

I do hope some flowers appear on it because Mum told me that bees love the colour purple and all their variations!

We have a lavendender under the front room window it looks lovely and smells beautiful. Some of the lavenders do have a pretty flowers on them.We do have a few new ones in the back garden. We find lavenders last a few years if you trim them once the flowers blossom but dont trim to hard be careful.I bring the cuttings indoors and put them in a vase without water ,natural room freshener.

They can flower in spring right round to september ,if you trim them off they will grow and flower again. Some of the flowers are not that big but if you rub the tops of the lavender and smell your fingers it is lovely it really leaves a lovely aroma in the air.To take a cutting bend a few stems down to the dirt and cover with dirt put a stone or something on the bit underground and leave it should root. You have to wait quite a while then let it grow till the new root is long and strong normally another season then snip it off and there you go.Good luck with it.

When do the flowers appear and how long are they there for? That's a good idea about taking cuttings, I shall try to remember that if the thing gets out of hand lol. John was smoking at the back door last night and I got a waft of lavender as he did so. It seems to smell more at night for some reason, a bit like our winter jasmine at the other end!

I bought a very small lavender plant two years ago. The next size was over twice as expensive so I thought I`d tell it to grow. The plant answered my hopes and now it is a beautiful plant, as big as the expensive one. I didn`t know it would grow as fast. The whole plant has the nice lavender smell, not only the flowers. I would give it a little more room though, if I were you. Luck!

Mmmm, I'd not thought of it spreading out like that. Would I be able to take cuttings (not that I'm an expert in gardening) to reduce its size and plant some of them elsewhere in the raised flower bed?

I love how lavenders smell too. Well, I don't have a plant like yours coz it is really hard to have a plant in our home coz of all the birds and our dog. But what I would often do is light a lavender candle or burn a lavender incense.

Yes, I have some lavender hand wash and body lotion too. I use the latter if I have trouble sleeping and it usually does the trick.

Oh yeah! I also have those hand wash. My kids would just love washing their hands all the time if I place that bottle by the sink. It doesn't last long, I tell you.

It's strange that it doesn't feature in many perfumes. Perhaps it doesn't formulate very well, I don't know.

Hopefully, you will get to enjoy some lovely lavender plants. I haven't a green thumb. I like to imagine that I will one day have success with plants once we own our own home and I have a real space in which to garden. However, that may just be a lovely daydream.

We only have this raised flower bed because my FIL built it for us. Mind you, he didn't point the top of it, if you notice. Half a job, as usual..but I AM grateful..sort of!

I have seen the lavender before, which has purple flowers that have a strong pleasant smell.I like it too. What type of plant is the one beside lavender on your raised flower bed ? It looks like the plum blossom.

It's some kind of shrub but - for the life of me - I cannot remember what it's called. That particular one has red leaves on it, the one further along the bed has green leaves. I bought them at the same time, if memory serves but it was a few years ago now.

i don't have gardening tips to share, in fact, i don't think lavender grows here, but i do hope your plant will be as obedient as the one marguicha bought. i have been reading for years how the scent of lavender is relaxing. some even say it can protect you from negativity. so i finally bought a small bottle. i would put 2 drops on the bed, one on the left and one on the right of my pillow. it doesn't seem to work for me. i don't fall asleep faster. my eyes are closed and i try to clear my mind, but i can't get past how it hurts my nose. maybe i'll try chamomile next time, but i'd like to finish that small bottle first.

I guess lavender doesn't work for everybody, like you say. I do know that you can buy sachets that you can place INSIDE the pillowcase. That might work better as it won't be as 'in your face' so to speak. Worth a try if the drops fail to work.
