I don't see things the same way as that narrator says. I kind if think she is out of touch with her own humanity. Yes I believe we humans can have unconditional love. My love is unconditional for my daughter. There is nothing that could make me not love her. It wouldn't be for selfish reasons that I live her. I love her for her, and that she is part of me.
I had a husband; my love for him was unconditional until he made it clear he didn't want to be married to me. I put up with a lot from him because I loved him in spite of how he behaved. In the end I just accepted reality.
In the video it said the man who pays for his wife's life saving cancer treatment is selfish that he is doing it only for himself. Maybe he isn't ready to lose her yet, but maybe she isn't ready to die yet either. Maybe she still WANTS to live. It can be unselfish love to try to save her or let her go. It just depends on what the dying person wants.

She is trying to convey the idea that it is our self that does not want to loose the other person. That we don't want to feel the loss. She is using 'selfish' as in thinking of our own thoughts and feelings. I see it a bit differently too. But I do get her point that I can only KNOW my own feelings, I can only EXPERIENCE my own thoughts, so therefore it is those 'self' thoughts and feelings I operate under.

unconditional love can be found with only one person that is with your mother. only mother shows unconditional love towards her children. no one else can show such a kind of unconditional love like a mother shows to her child. i love my mother very much.

I would turn that around and say only a child can love unconditionally. A child truly begins life not expecting anything from the world, from parents, from others. A mother, it comes close. But I have seen many mother's who put their needs ahead of their children and who live vicariously through their children. But I am so happy that you have a mother who obviously is worthy of your 'unconditional love'.

thats a good perspective i agree with you. so then after hearing your response i have changed my decision. now i will say that only a child can show unconditional love towards the mother. and in terms of showing unconditional love mothers love can be rated slightly below that of the childs

I don't really think there is true unconditional love in human beings. I think that we are all basically selfish beings when we get past the altruism and the bravado. Although I'm not sure I agree with all of the video, I agree with that basic thought.
There is only One who is capable of true unconditional love.

It all really does boil down to we do what we do cause we want to feel good about ourselves. Ego. Pride. Comfort zone. However you want to describe it. Thanks Peavey.

Unconditional love does not exist. Unconditional love would mean that we can do anything we like and get away with it. Such love is harmful. In human life, there are many occasions on which punishment is needed. Punishment is actually the good soil on which good crops are reaped.

While I agree with you as pertains to punishment, I would say that unconditional love does exist within the Creator, God, for His creation.

Our actions show the world who we are? Do you blindly accept what she says or do you look deeper beyond the surface. You are intelligent. Look again.
Granted, at this level, Unconditional Love is hard to find, however it does exist from time to time. Keep your eyes open.
God is teaching us all to Love Unconditionally. Patience. We will all get there in time. There is much we much understand and let go of before we reach that level.
You have all my Love and Kindness. This is unconditional for you have it regardless of your actions. Further, I gain nothing through this action. I do it simply because it is an intelligent thing to do.

I also know there is more to a person than their public persona.
I agree, God is teaching those who are seeking the truth from HIM how to love unconditionally. BUT, love isn't always sweetness and kisses.
I love my fellow man. Glad to hear you do too. But it is far from unconditionaly, I do it because it is the intelligent thing to do, therefore...I DO GAIN something for doing so.

My mother-in-law had that kind of love for my daughters.

I'd like to think that I had this kind of love, but truthfully...the loss or pain of my children causes ME pain. So I have to wonder if it is not MY interests that motivate me to keep them alive and pain free?
What do you say UNCONDITIONAL means?

I think many folks aim for unconditional love, and hopefully we can accomplish it.. Of course we cannot accomplish it always.. We all likely have those we like more than others.. people we are like minded with for instance. That's kind of natural. The key I think is to not get carried away with that. After all, even criminals like those like their self! And of course the Creator has unconditional love.. and He sees all things concerning every person, and group. We make judgment according to what we see, which is usually outward, but the Creator knows all from the inside and from each one's true motives.
It may be difficult, but I think the more we hang out with God, the more things like unconditional love will start to rub off onto us!

I agree!
Renew your mind...becoming a follower is not the end of it. It can be likened to a marriage, try having a marriage without growth, it won't last past all the trials and the upsets.

Unconditional Love is seldom found in Humans, but always with God. God's love is unconditional in that it is Absolute. God loves 'Absolutely.'
Absolute love demands absolutely Nothing in return.
Christianity does not teach absolute love because it could not collect money if it embraced this concept!
Because God's love is Absolute, all human(so-called)sin, is forgiven even before it can be committed!

Christianity unfortunately has allowed itself to be corrupted by the world's attitudes and values.
We love HIM because HE fist loved us. Great response.

To me, I don't think any one of us can exactly say if our love for any one, including our flesh and blood could be deemed unconditional because there's always that self factor.
Surely, we can always flip a new page for an errant party but again we cannot tell if there are conditions attached. We can only answer this ourselves and to ourselves. However, I believe in doing what should be done and right whatever it takes first.
Don't care what others say or may see or may not see. The important thing is making the difference in that moment, don't care if it is selfish or foolish no one is unimportant or more important than another.
I'd let the One upstairs decide and judge if what I've done is unconditional or conditional, right or wrong, selfish or unselfish, stupid or clever.

I agree artemeis. And each time we choose rightly, we become a little more like the Creator.
That is why Jesus answered the way he did when asked what the greatest commmandment was; And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luke 10:27
