Not a good excuse

Yesterday I caught a group of boys outside my apartmeny building killing a mouse. When I told them to leave the poor thing alone one of them said "its already dead now we are just doing this for fun" I was horrified but there really wasn't much I could do since I had my hands full carrying my sleeping 2 year old. About half an hour later and there are now three boys taking turns shooting it with a bb gun, beating it with a stick, and beating it with a shovel. I was completely disgusted. I realize its only a mouse but it was a living thing and it doesn't deserve this treatment. Today I spoke to the boys mother. The one who told me they were just doing it for fun. The only thing she had to say was "well he has ADHD I'm sorry but I don't think that gives him the right to think killing an animal, and then beating the body fun. That is horrible and disgusting and just wrong in so many ways.

I have seen many kids killing different small creatures like frogs, lizards, etc. When someone tells them why you are doing this they just say, we are killing it because it's looking so weird. My mom always teach me not to kill anything unnecessarily ever. But many of my classmates were killing and what else I could do alone. I just always leave the place when other kids do things like that. There parents should teach them not to kill.

That is what I told my daughter to do. If she ever saw something like this. I'm so glad she didn't see what was going on she would of been so upset.

Yes. every parent should guide their kids. But only a few does that, like you , my mom. Most of them doesn't care at all.

Kids dont care, because their parents dont care. Sad, you saw it first hand.

It was very disturbing and it made me sick to my stomach. That poor mouse wouldn't have hurt any of them and who knows it might of even had babies around. Oh the poor things. Ugh, this is why I get along better with animals then with people.

That is horrible! And kids that start out killing animals often turn into serial killers when they get older. Not all of them, but it could happen so his mother might want to take it more seriously. If he was my child I would have made sure he never killed another animal again in his life, but of course a lot of parents now a days don't discipline their kids at all and then wonder why their children are outside KILLING things!! I think this mother should be a LOT more strict with her kid and maybe he will not have these kind of problems...And his ADHD might just be a lack of discipline issue as well.

Yes I believe it is probably more of a lack of discipline. I can't believe just being so casual about your kids killing something. I think the only reason we should kill an animal is out of need. Like if we were hunting for food. These kids obviously need more discipline and a greater understanding of the value of a life. I just don't understand what is wrong with the world today. Yes I do people put more value in technology then in protecting life.

I am sorry to hear this, poor little mouse. Everyone need to protect animals, we are all belong to the great nature. The animal has rights to live, we can not just kill them for fun. We have to be aware of that lots of animals become extinct till now, we mankind have to protect animals, don't wait untill it is too late even for regrets.

I agree 100% I can't even stand to see poor little animals on the side of the road. It's so sad that these kids don't understand the value of a life. One of the little boys has a pet rabbit, is he going to beat that with a stick next?

This is really kind of you to stand up for the helpless creature! You are absolutely right, we should all have basic respect for life whether human or otherwise. While I feel sad for the mouse and the boys as well, your child is destined for a great future, with such empathy from you I am sure your children will be brought up to be kind and loving!

OH wow you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for your kind words. I do try and I even sat my daughter down yesterday and I told her I didn't want her playing with mean kids, and if she ever was playing with any kids that started being mean to an animal or another person then she was to tell them to stop and then either come and get mommy, daddy or another grown up.

if they had a good parents like you they didnt do that action, the education comes from family,i think reporting this to their family will not change anything and also didnt change right. anyway you are totally right and its so bad story,i cant understand kids in this generation, tv and games make them crazy and families are just watching happy mylotting
