She was Someone's Mother ...

I expect everyone has heard that the ex UK Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, has died. At the time of her death, she was an elderly lady who had been suffering from dementia for some years. I was out all day yesterday and hadn't seen the news. I first heard about it from Facebook, which was full of vitriolic comments from people claiming to want to 'dance on the grave' and the such. Her policies were not popular with everyone, as one would expect with a politician, but I am truly disgusted by some of the things I've seen said. Whatever she did in her professional life, she was still someone's mother and someone's grandmother. This is no indication of my own political views, I just think that it's wrong to vilify the dead. What do you think?

Unfortunately, that is the way of the world today--it doesn't matter what kind of person someone is, they are judged by their politics if they are a public personage. Mrs. Thatcher did a lot of good for England and the world but no one looks at her accomplishments, just her policies that took power from certain groups. The type of people who are reviling her are rampant in my own country. They hate anyone with strong opinions unless those opinions agree with their own. They are liberals who claim they are tolerant but they are the most intolerant people I've ever encountered. There are plenty of people who are mourning The Iron Lady, a title which started as an insult from the Russians but which Mrs. Thatcher wore proudly. But the media will not give such people much coverage. Suffice it to say that she was a great lady and many, many people wish her loved ones peace.

If people are unhappy with Margaret Thatcher's actions as a politician that is fair enough. We don't all share the same politics or future vision. I could stomach reasoned debate on why or why not she was a good or bad thing for Britain. But personal attack when she is in no way able to defend herself is no way acceptable. The nastiness I've personally seen has all been on social media and forums. Very unpleasant and has made me reassess some of the people I know. Not because of their politics. I think people just thinks normal rules of decency don't apply when they are behind a keyboard sometimes.

Ha.. I almost started a similar post yesterday, though nothing to do with the Prime Minister. I unfortunately also had an overdose of human cruelty yesterday through websites. I left the computer yesterday just flat out hating people and their meanness and their judgmental ways. People these days are just jerks with no respect for themselves or anyone else. Am I surprised they could say horrid things about the recently deceased.. no. It's sad and disgusting.. but not at all surprising, and that's the problem! It should be surprising.

I wonder if any of these people have ever considered how they would feel were it a member of their own family who was being reviled in such a way. There is a massive difference between criticism of someone's actions and personal attack, but the line between them seems to get erased when people get behind a keyboard. And personally attacking someone when they aren't in a position to defend themselves is even more despicable.

I agree. Some of the things people are saying just shows how crass and crude they are. There is no respect of anyone or anything. It's sickening.

People seem to mislay their idiot filter when they get behind a keyboard.

I was actually saddened to hear yesterday of Margaret Thatcher, of course she made a lot of radical changes, but when you are in that sort of position you are never going to please everyone. Sure she made a lot of enemies, but what Prime Minister doesn't? Any changes are going to be met with anger and resentment to some. I admired her, and she took no b*llshit, the fact that we had a lady prime minister for the first time in history we should be proud about! How many other countries are lucky to have a woman PM? She will be at peace now with her husband Denis. Of course I raised my eyebrows at the kind of response from Facebook, what else can you expect from that site?

People are entitled to their own opinions about her politics and policies, but the nastiness and viciousness I've witnessed have really astonished me. Whether you think she was the best or the worst thing to happen to Britain, she was still a human being and as such I think she deserves at least that much respect.

Hi, Margaret Thacher was very great prime minister of England. Some people try to spoil the image of the others by speaking anything about others and try to become famous. They don't have any respect for anybody. Thacher's contribution to the world is great and I neglect all such comments.

Regardless of how one feels about her politics, I think such abuse is unwarranted.

I grew up in a different country, so I'm not familiar with her policies. She was in power back in the time where I was in grade school, and we had to memorize country leaders, and her name was very prominent then. I remember her distinctly for being the only woman I had to remember back then. I remember thinking back then how proud I would have been if my mom was a leader of the country. She may have not done right in terms of policies, but I'm sure she has inspired a few young girls to be leaders.

in this days, when i turn on the TV,i can watch many programs about the late Mrs Thatcher, the ex UK Prime Minister.Through these programs,i know more about this lady than before.many people needed her, many people disliked her,and many people hated her.in my heart, she had been a beautiful lady with a sharp nose, twinkling eyes and blond hair.people called her "The Iron lady",there must be some reasons for that, she was impressed to me , in my opinion, she was always confident and powerful.

Many people feel she did a lot of good for the UK. And many people feel she did not. But whatever your feelings about her policies, I think there is no excuse for abuse.
