The political circus is here once again!

Election time is here in the Philippines once again. As most Filipinos know and experience, the political election scenes here in our country is very depressing/frustrating with all the black propaganda, mudslinging, vote buying, et al. Without a machinery (that involves lots of money),one is perceived not likely to win.
Filipinos are the most ardent in giving support to their bets, keeping blind eyes to incompetents, for reasons I do not like most of the time. We are said to be the most forgiving lot although I have to say a lot of Filipinos are stupid when it comes to choosing candidates for even the most valuable political positions in the country.
As I do not read now, as I do before, about foreign news, I am not aware of how it is done in other countries, or if irregularities are prevalent during election time in their countries. I admire the US, for example, for having only two (2) parties whereas in the Philippines, a group of aspiring politicians can form another party just for the sake of calling it a party.
How is the political scenario in your country? Are elections done in a way where results are reliable?

well philippine politics is one of the worst as i see it backed with 70% stupid voters who doesnt know how to choose the best candidate for the position.no wonder most of our elected officials are not really fit for their position.

true.i think it is already age old problem that we have here and will still stay that way longer until everyone is educated oj how to choose the best leaders.im quite sure the results of the coming elections will be the same as before and we will see the same old faces of those politicians who are not for good of the people but for theor own good.

sad to say, the 70% we consider stupid voters are not entirely 'stupid' but ignorant of what is really happening. a poor man, for example, trying to survive a day, will not put priority to these matters, that is if these candidates are suited or not, or if they could really help alleviate the situation and condition of the poor. most of these voters are not well informed due to many reasons, and one of them, and is the foremost reason, is poverty.

Political circus, is the right description. It's so festive mood in the Philippines during election. Though it's fun and politicians all say the most promising promises, I don't know but still there are so many things to improve in the country but politicians turn silent and their services not felt anymore after the election time.

these trapos (traditional politicians) entice those who are ignorant, vulnerable, and lacking in many things. it really makes me sad that after this elections, the promises will go away like bubbles popping out after a short time. they have logos, banners, slogans, everything, but only a few remain true to their promises. very sad indeed for the country.

Yeah why do they just entice us with their promises and jingles? Right after they win, the spirit of hope is gone. We don't know where they are and why we don't see big changes.

We have more than 2 parties, it's just that the other parties are not big enough to get serious media attention. Actually, I wish a third party would make more headway in elections, as, in my opinion, both major parties here are owned by big business, and really don't represent the voters well.

A group of aspiring people can form another political party just for the sake of calling itself a party?? I don't see any thing wrong with that. In any democracy, it is perfectly alright for any group of people to form political party and take part in the process of a free and fair election. Unless the newly form political party advocate use of violence and illegal means to size power and topple the elected government , then it is a cause for concerned by every Filipino. You should be glad you have a political right to elect your representative or political party candidate into your Parliament, so that those who govern is by popular consent of the people and for the people; you shouldn't feel so discouraging and negative about the political future of Philippine. After all these sacrifice by your elders and formers leaders that make people revolution possible in Philippine during Marcos era, you should exercise your ballot wisely and carefully no matter how much negative campaigning is on the ground, every positive changes begin with a small step at a time, remain optimistic about your country and don't ever lost hope on it, remember all those brave Filipino student that lost their life in the past during the revolution, you can keep the fire of freedom burning indefinitely with your vote.

lampar, if a group will form a political party without anything credible and sustainable in its platform, why form a party that will just serve as nuisance?
the political right of each voter should manifest in the electoral results, and it should be worth dying for but with the system here where votes can be bought, how could those who dream of a better Philippines, if crooks are positioned and not those who deserve the posts, be thankful?
after the Marcos era, nothing had changed that much, the country is still in debt.

Oh that is very disappointing to hear about the political scenario in your country and i think this is prevalent in my country as well. the situation changes completely whenever the elections are around and it is very sickening to see how politicians adopt cheap techniques to get votes from the people.
