Electricity prices has hiked recently... That's the reason, it was band today, like a protest against the price hike... Let's see if the prices will get down or not... These people(govt) is very smart, hiked the rates during summer, when electricity consumption is more...

We're having the same issues here in our country. And as far as I know, my country's electric bill is much higher than in your country. And during this summer season- everyone here in our country expect a rocket high electric bills (so irritating)

I think most probably it is because in summer there were less rain and there were less electricity production and most probably that is the reason for the increase in electricity bills.

Well i was not aware of the band in your city and i know many would be protesting against the electricity price hike. Besides as u have mentioned, govt has played a safe game as they know that by hiking the price, they can lessen the usage of electricity. Now lets see what would be the aftereffect of this hike.

I think solar electricity would be the answer for the high electricity bills.

We are also having electricity price hikes and most probably they will have huge hikes the next month due to the shortage of the electricity. I think most probably solar electricity is the solution for electricity bills.

i should say to everyone that india is a developing country and it has several problems to address for which it needs money. if government keeps on spending money by the way of providing subsidies to products like petrol, diesel, lpg, electricity etc. then god only can save our country. actually because of these subsidies people dont realise the actual value of the product which they are using so they are wating the products just like anything. lets take the example of electricity itself the actual cost per unit of current ia around 10rs but government provides current to consumers ar an average cost of around 5 rupees. so people think that electricit is very cheap so they waste lot of current. but if the price of electricity was 10rs per unit then will anyone waste the current in their home. thats why government must stop providing subsidies to several products including electricity so that people also will not waste the current and government can also use the money to fund the social sector schemes. atleast government is now taking right steps. government has stopped providing subsidies to petrol, and diesel and it is gradually reducing the subsidies provided to lpg. now government should also seriously think about doing way with subidies in electricity. but since electricity is a state subject thee respective state governments can only act on this issue.
