I have allergies really bad right now. It is weird because I've never had allergies this bad before. Anyhow my boyfriend gave me some Alavert to take away the symptoms. It helps a little. Tonight I called CVS to make sure I can take it with my sleeping medication and they said it was okay. But, I didn't even think about this being a non drowsy allergy medication so now it is 2:44 am and I can't sleep for the life of me! I can't wait for the allergies to go away!

Since I am totally miserable with allergies right now, I empathize with you. When I take the non-drowsy, I have the opposite effect, I still want to curl up and sleep the day away.
The decongestant medications for allergies have a three day or so period before you get a rebound effect and they make symptoms appear again,
The only med I can take is allegra and I stay awake all day on it thank goodness. I wonder what effect that would have on you?
Also, for the severe allergies, the cortisone based nasal spray do wonders.
I hope you get some relief. Life is miserable toting tissues around with you.

I take the allergy medication for the worst of it. I had nasal spray here, from when I was sick, but it got used up. I sent off for a free netti pot in the mail a week or two ago. In the future I will probably just try that instead.

what? you were sick and you couldn't sleep at all? How can that be? When I was sick, I usually can sleep pretty good, and I certainly sleep the longest. Anyway, allergy was happening in my office work, and many people also got sick. I hope that you will get well soon, and my co - workers too.

Hope your co-workers get well soon as well. The allergy symptoms are for the most part gone, but I think it turned into a sinus infection so I have to go tomorrow and get that taken care of. Will be so glad to have this behind me!

Being a non drowsy formula does not necessarily mean it will keep you awake. . . but it is an antihistamine. In some people an antihistamine will keep you awake and prevent you from sleeping soundly. Alavert is the same medication as Claritin. I have not had trouble sleeping when I take it, but if I took the formula with an added decongestant I did. It also may be reacting that way with your sleeping med, and in a way that is unique to you. If it is like the version I take it is a 24 hour med. I hope by now it has worn off and you have gotten some much needed sleep.

The one I was taking was a 12 hr one. And I ended up not taking it anymore, but taking Nyquil because Nyquil takes care of a lot of the same symptoms, but I could sleep. My nasel thingy was a freebie that I ordered and it hasn't come yet. Even so, I think the snot drained wrong and became an infection or something because I'm blowing blood! Ewwww! Haha. I'm going to go to the take care clinic tomorrow.

I think it was the allergies and the heat along with the medication interactions that made it so hard to sleep. I always have a hard time sleeping when it is hot out.

Well, the hospital is a little drastic for allergies. But I do plan to head to the clinic tomorrow for some antibiotics.
