Bad moods are unfortunately quite common for me. I tend to get irritated easily, and then the negative feelings affect the rest of my day, and those around me too. I want to avoid these moods and be more positive about life. I do not want to hurt those around me with harsh words or actions. So I try to regain composure and be abetter person. What do you do when you have a bad mood?

Thankfully I do not get bad moods. One reason is we could never have said these things in our childhood and even then I don't think I really had any bad mood.I have not seen my mother show any bad mood too when I was young. So, this word is not in my dictionary. Similarly, my son also never gets into a bad mood.He will be preoccupied with work and I am also like that because I will be lost in my own thoughts.

I get perturbed for many things but I cannot afford to show anger at anyone; my husband has a pretty short temper and therefore the question does not arise. My son is angelic and I don't have the heart to show any anger at him.If it is daughter-in-law then the question once again cannot rise.

Yes I have a very good sense of humour but sometimes I get mad for little reasons. I laugh all the time but I know it is hard to control the bad moods. Other people are more indiferent with the troubles, and nothing make them angry.

Perfect time to respond to this! Doing taxes and necessary stuff around the house puts me in a bad mood because I have better things to do with my time such as earning money. Honestly, if a day goes by where I don't make at least a buck I am irritated the whole day. And lately I've been bogged down with things to do around here, and trying to get the federal taxes finished by tomorrow so I can take them to the state dept. and let the state do their part of the taxes so I can get my state refund. Because everything is due by April 15th I am trying hard to get it done before then as it will be sooooo crowded on Monday the 15th. That's why I set tomorrow as my goal. I think I also get irritated when others can't do something for themselves that should be easy to do. And expect someone else to do it for them. This has been a very straining time as usually I AM in a good mood! I do almost always think positively. Perhaps you could try to pinpoint what, exactly, makes you so easily irritated and how come this is a source of irritation for you? Once you are aware of it, then you can deal with it. There are those of us who get irritated so easily by others because we are able to cope with things that others seem to have difficulty coping with - and for some reason, that can be very irritating! It helps to take a deep breath, and then ask the other person, "What do you need in order to do this?" or "How can I help you?". At least those are positive actions rather than negative. I also tend to get irritated by interruptions. If I'm writing an article, or working hard on something, I hate it when the door bell buzzes or one of my kids asks me for something. Or even if one of my beloved cats "head butts" me under my leg because he wants attention - right now! A person may understand that you have half an hour left to finish something, but a cat? Nope. And with cats, if you don't pay attention immediately, they'll keep it up until they eat up more time than they would if you had just taken five minutes to pet them or play with them! Anyway, for the most part, it's easy to be irritable when we aren't getting our own needs met. For me, that includes having lots of time alone so I can write, make money on the internet, and not deal with anything else for a few hours. For others, it might be time to read a book they've wanted to read, or watch a show, or go to a concert, or the beach - who knows? All I can do is try to cope with the issues at hand, deal with them, and try to carve out time when I can. One thing positive I am doing - my birthday is next month - and it's been almost four years since I went away by myself anywhere. I used to go away every year for two or more nights, by myself. It was my "mental health" vacation. With my husband's illness and the economy, I haven't been able to do that. But now that he is doing a bit better, and we'll be getting a nice state tax refund, I think I can go away for at least one - maybe two - nights to Atlantic city for my birthday. My family already knows I am going to do this, and just knowing I'll have a day or so at the beach during the day, and the slot machines at night, has made the rest of this mess easier to deal with right now. Yeah!!!!!!!

I work as a volunteer for a community organisation and yesterday, my boss was decidedly unfriendly. I don't know if she was generally moody or irritated with me for some reason. It sure did bring me down though. I was both distressed and angry and I just wanted to leave. My previous boss had the utmost respect for the volunteers and it was reflected in all her dealings with us. This boss is a bit of a nasty piece of work. It wasn't until I had left for the day that I started to feel better. I find that if I remove myself from a situation I generally feel better.

When I have a bad mood, I usually keep silent without wanting to speak because I know that I would make the matter worse in such a situation. After some time of silence, I become much better and I can talk wisely and rationally. Thanks for the discussion. Take care.

I have mood swings often and my initial reaction to that is too shut my mouth and isolate my self, and that they don't undesrstand and find it weird. I'm having problem in controlling my temper so the best way to avoid hurting people around me is to be quiet. Why don't you try it also?

Hi grkelly, Mood swings are quite normal for most people. After all we are humans with emotions and can be affected by other people's action and behaviour. However, what I think is this: how one reacts either positively or negatively to these situations is withing one's control. In other words, one can choose get into a bad mood, sulk and have a miserable day or not to affected by it and be happy. I choose to be happy. Have a wonderful day.

When I have a bad mood I usually watch a movie, something like cool runnings. It charges me with new energy and positive attitude. If this doesnt work, there is always chocolate. That usually works just fine. And if even this fails there is the last resort of computer games, which more or less always works! So just relax and have a nice day.

Hi grkelly! When I am in a bad mood I go food and music tripping. I go away to the place that made me feel sad. I go to a relaxing place like the mall or just stay inside my room. I sing out loud and dance as long as I want. Sometimes I also go to church. If someone caused me to feel exhausted/toxicated, I walk away to breathe some fresh air. As much as possible I keep mum since I am a very straightforward person. Have a great day!

I think it is a good thing that you have already realize your problem, it's really a very good start for you to change your temper. :) When I have a bad mood, I would stay alone, and don't want to be disturbed. Then I would figure out the reason. Usually, I would keep telling myself that there isn't anything worth me feeling depressed, and everything will be in the past, just look forward and there are so many wonderful things waiting for you to experience. Then you will find there is no time for you to immerse in bad moods.TRUST ME!

I usually do what I want to do. Sometimes I read. Sometimes I write to let the emotions and thoughts out. Sometimes I eat, especially chocolate. If my baby brother is awake I play with my six-month old brother because he's so cute and he cheers me up.

I usually go somewhere and cool it off. Went to your friends house and hangout and suddenly it will take off. That's how i do. Sometimes i play games on game consoles just to have fun. FUN is the opposite of bad moods. So all you have to do is have fun. So what do you usually do when you want to have fun?

I usually leave if I feel my negative feelings will loose me to get calm and have a good mood. I go away to the park to relax and drink juices to get calm. It is better to be alone when you are in a bad mood. Before you feel that you are getting to be mad. Just bow your head and smile then leave. come back after you are in a good mood.
