What the karate teacher said

Monday night I was at Cary's karate class when one of the teachers says, "we're having free classes for parents this week", and ushers us into the other room. Turns out it was basically a self defense overview, and while the kids were doing karate, he taught us how to get out of a chokehold and other grips.
That night, Tony and I were horsing around and he had grabbed my wrists, and I said "now I'm going to do what the karate teacher said". I started to roll my arms out of his grip and back off and unintentionally let off a big fart.
Tony's eyes got all big, and he let go, and I said, "that's what the karate teacher said - FART", and we busted up laughing.
I wonder if I should tell that story at karate tonight.
Maybe not.

This is very interesting. I have never learned karate and I am not good at something like that. But I still like to have a try since this is a free class. Besides, I can learn it together with my child. It will encourage the children to learn it well, I guess.

I see that self defense has even progressed to the "biological" stage.
Be sure to ask your instructor and all around to put on their gas masks. You are really contagious...

That is hilarious! But, it was effective! I think that is an excellent technique! lol! But in all seriousness, I think it is pretty neat that they gave you a self-defense overview. I have always been interested in self-defense. I've been thinking of taking a class myself.

The taekwondo school which my kids go into has actually started offering a self defense class for parents. It isn't free, but it's really cheap and we get a free T-shirt (instead of the uniform)! I've been wanting to go, but the thought has crossed my mind. There might be unnecessary noises or 'releases' that might surface when I go bend over to do rolls and kicks.

This was just 2 free lessons, no doubt partly trying to get people to sign up for more, but it was good.

Fart Ninja over here...!!! Though I shouldn't talk because I've cleared a room or two with my own... I've taken Aikido for few years & a buddy of mine has taken jujitsu for some time... In lamens term, the difference is aikido has more throws & jujitsu has more grabs & holds... One time I grabbed him & went to throw him & he locked his arm & put me in a hold... I guess it was a instinct reaction on my part, I farted on him... He almost passed out... Since then, he wouldn't mess with me... He said I didn't need to know any self defense techniques... Fart was enough to get me out of most situations... Lol...

I remember when taking yoga that the teacher said not to worry about it, that farting was natural when you put your body in a lot of different positions. I suppose it's the same for karate, but how funny.

Well, apart from the funny side of your story with Tony, I must say that the karate teacher of Cary, has made a very positive thing.
Teaching to parents and to all staff of the self-defense techniques, it can always be useful.
These days you never know, we can always be attacked when we least expect it, our cities (myself included, in Italy), they are always unsafe!
Have you thought instead to subscribe to you, along with Cary to a specific course of personal self-defense?
I personally is one of those things I should do.

It is a positive thing. I have no doubt that part of their intention is to try and get the parents to join some classes, but still, it was very helpful.

The karate is similar to Chinese martial arts.Nowadays,it is necessary for people to learn how to defend themselves. In addition, practising martial arts can build up a good physique.
