Unusual pets

I sell scratch cards from the kidney association and I walk around from door to door. Today I visited a farm in my local area, and the family who lived there kept a monkey as a pet. I was surpriced to see that. When I visit people's houses I see cats and dogs all the time, but it is the first time that I have seen a family who had a monkey. Personally I stick to the traditional pets and I have a cat, a dog, 2 rabbits and a guinea pig. Many exotic pets are banned in my country and the rules are very complicated. I have read the list of the banned animals and there are a lot of animals that I have never heard about before, and I am not sure what they look like. Do you or any of your friends have unusual pets? Which exotic pet would you like to keep in your home if you had the chance to choose any animal?

Is he the person you started a discussion about? I am happy to hear that you got out of that relationship. I have had a verbally abusive partner myself, and I am so glad that relatíonship is over. Today I am married to another man.

He sure is, I just wish I had left him 3-4 years before I did.

I understand what you mean. I spent 6 years with my ex-boyfriend, and when I look at it today I think that I should have left him much earlier, but I didn't think that way when we were together.

I stick to usual pets and currently have two pet dogs. They are miniature poodles. Breeders prefer a solid color but not the one that bred my male dog. He is mainly white with black marks on his body. My female dog is plain black so she is more common. looking. In the Easter school holiday my son went on a course called The World of Animals. He got to see a pigmy hedgehog. Wow! We saw one of those for sale along side some exotic pets like lizards and tortoises. My mum used to have a tortoise and he lived to his 30s. His name was Percy and I remember him with fondness. In my home country there are many laws about exotic pets. I don't think people are allowed to keep a monkey in a normal home environment here. There is a charity and visitors place called Monkey World in my home country. I hope to take my children there for a day trip.

I love kangaroos and I wish I lived in Australia with some of those.

The world of animals sounds like an interesting place to visit. My cousin used to have two tortoises. I saw them when I visited her home, but I have never had my own tortoise. When I was a small child I asked my mother if we could buy a sea lion. I told her that it could live in the bathtub, I thought it was a great idea, but my mother didn't agree In my country there are also many laws about exotic pets and the list of banned animals is very long. Only certain types of monkeys are allowed. The rules sound very complicated. I was very surpriced to see the monkey that people from that farm kept as a pet. We don't see that kinds of pets every day.

Well, it's pretty unusual. I don't like monkeys, they're just uncool. I don't have any unusual pets. Now I only have fishes in my pond. If I have an exotic pet, it should be lizards..

My ex-boyfriend used to have fish. That was one of his hobbies when we met, but after some time we decided to buy a rabbit and my ex-boyfriend gave up his fish, because he didn't have time for both fish and a rabbit. I don't think that I know anyone who keeps lizards as pets, but I don't think that they belong to the animals that are banned in my country. I have many pets in my home: A cat, a dog, 2 rabbits and a guinea pig, but I have never had an exotic pet like the monkey that family had. I didn't expect to see that, and I don't know anyone else who has chosen to keep a monkey as their pet.

I think I'd actually prefer to have a monkey as a pet rather than a dog. The most unusual pet I've come into contact is a snake. My friend has one. Its not that big but apparently it grows.

I think that I would choose a dog if I had choose between a monkey and a dog, because I don't really have much experience with or knowledge about monkeys I don't know how to how to take care of them. I have never had an unusual pet. I enjoyed seeing their monkey when I visited that family, but I was also very surpriced because I usually see dogs and cats. One of my former classmates had several snakes. One day our teacher asked him to share his knowledge about snakes with the class. He talked about snakes and he also showed one us of his snakes. He asked if anyone wanted to hold the snake, but I prefered to watch it from a distance. I would be afraid hold the snake.

Now-a-days many people are keeping monkey as pet. But I only prefers bird. I don't like even cats or dogs. I love to keep a bird as a pet and not in a cage and the bird would be free to go anywhere and return home in the evening. But that's not possible right. So I don't have pet. We have one parrot but one day it flew away

I like monkeys but I don't want to make them as my pet. There a lot of cases here in my country where monkeys sometimes bite people.

I have never had a monkey, but I have heard the same thing that you said (that they sometimes bite people) In the one of the articles I read online it said that they might bite the owners as well, and I think that I be afraid of that if I chose to keep a monkey as my pet. I also feel that I don't know emough about them and I am sure that I would be able to take care of them in a good way and fulfill all their needs. When I sell scratch cards I visit a lot of different homes and some pets like cats and dogs are very common, but I was really surpriced when I visited the family that kept a monkey as a pet, I have never seen that before and a monkey is not a common pet in my country.

Depends on what you consider unusual! The most unusual ones I've had are probably the ones I have now. A leopard gecko and chickens. However, I don't consider the chickens pets and the gecko belongs to one of my sons. If I could have my choice of an exotic animal, I'd have to choose an Ocelot. They're just so beautiful!

I would not want to own an exotic animal because I believe they belong in their natural habitat.

Good point. I think some of the people buy an exotic pet do it because they think that it will be interesting, and they don't really think about the consequences for the animal. The rules about exotic animals are quite strict in my country and there are two reasons because some animals are banned. Some of them are banned because they can be dangerous if they escape and some of them are banned because they (the people who made the rules) are afraid that the animals wouldn't get a good life if they are kept as pets. Like I said the rules are quite strict, but I was still surpriced to see some of the animals that people are allowed to keep, and I think that some of those animals don't have a good life when they are kept as pets.

I would be afraid to keep a pet tiger in my home In my country that kind of pet would be illegal. There are two reasons why some animals are banned here. Some of them are banned because the authories don't think that a home for humans would be a suitable place for the animals and they are worried about the welfare of the animals. Another group of animals are banned because the animals would be dangerous if they escape from people's houses and tigers belong to that group. The rules in my country are quite complicated and there is a long list of animals that are banned, but sometimes sudden types of the same animals are banned and other types are okay.

Not sure if its exotic, but my son has a mouse. Most people we know don't have mice for pets. Not sure if id want something exotic like a monkey. That's not really my style.

I know that are people in my country who also keep mice, but I it is my impression that it isn't one of the common types of pets, and I don't know anyone who have mice as pets. I am don't think that I would buy a monkey either. I have read that it can be a challenge to keep them as pets and that they can be very aggressive. I think that it would be neccesary to do a lot of research and get to know more about monkeys before you choose to buy a monkey. I would also be afraid that I wouldn't be able to provide the monkey with a good place to live compared to the places where they usually live. I prefer to stick to the tradtional pets like dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.
