Right now I have the Comcast bundle...telephone, internet and tv. I pay over $140.00 a month for it. I'm thinking of changing over to Verizon because they are having a special for first timers of $89 including everything I have now. I want to be able to keep my present phone number because that's my primary for dr's, clinics, friends and family and it would be a pain to call everyone to give them the new number. I called Verizon and they said I could "probably" keep my number. I'm not so happy about "probably" and would rather have heard "no problem". I need to start saving money somewhere and this would be a great start. I hate new things and what if I'm not happy with Verizon? Would you change even though you might have to change your phone number?

I am surprised that Verizon did not guarantee that you can keep your phone number. You should be able to do that. Do they really guarantee the rate for 2 years or is your contract for two years with a rate change in the second year. I have Verizon for phone and Internet and I hate their tech service. You have to deal with somebody in India when you call in. Plus no matter what phone number you call for tech service, you get the same phone interface and I often have trouble getting routed to the correct person. When I switched back to Verizon for Internet awhile back, my connection kept dropping and they kept putting in trouble tickets, checking the line, and sending out a service tech who after awhile no longer needed directions to my house.
I hate switching service for cable, Internet, etc. They quote you a price and then when you add in all the taxes and service charges you always get soaked.

It seems that no matter what service you call you end up speaking to someone in India. I have nothing against them but most times we don't understand each other. I get tired of having to press 1 then 2 and 3 to get connected to someone and sometimes you get hung up on for some reason. I have having to call any service provider for that reason.

Among the things I hated about Verizon, when I did call tech service half the time I got a 'tech' who had no idea what he was doing and I'd end up hanging up on him. To keep their record clear, they didn't even put in a trouble ticket. I called 8 times in one night and at one point in frustration I asked for a manager. For that I got put on hold and no one ever got back to me. After three months of this, I got one tech who was too helpful. He felt he could fix the problem and started off by telling me to do the same things I'd been trying for a few months. After I hung up on him, he kept calling me back. Finally after several months of this, it turned out that the problem was the connection at THEIR modem out on the street. They could have fixed things if they thought the problem was their in the first place.
You might ask why did I put up with this. The price.

You need to weigh up the pros and cons, only when you find out for definite that you can keep your number should you make any decision, sometimes you can miss hidden charges which are not apparent when you first switch over. At hearing 'probably' would not instal much confidence in the new cable company to be honest! I am very loathed to change services, utilities and cable because of all the hassle that comes with it. It depends if I was going to be saving a great deal of money as to whether I would change over.

For the difference of 51.00 dollar savings yes I would change the number if I had too. (However, I really think you will be able to keep the number). Especially if you are trying to save money. Why pay more money for the same thing. Just send an email or text to everyone that needs the new number. You don't have to call everyone these days. We got rid of the internet and went with another company that is connected to my house phone. So I'm saving about 40 dollars a month. Every penny counts.

That sounds like a great savings. Why cant they tell you about the phone number? can you talk to a supervisor? Good luck..

I would switch if the savings were enough. I did the same thing but I switched from DirecTv to Verizon Fios. I got in on a $99 special but by the time they added on for the additional box with dvr (that's a must for me) and the taxes and fees which are around $20 the bill is around $130 for tv, internet, and home phone. I asked about removing the home phone but found it would only save me about $10 since it was a bundle package. So I kept it.
The great thing about Fios is that the wiring is underground so my service was not affected by the storms we had unless the power went out. With my previous providers if the wind blew hard my cable or satellite service was interrupted.
