Old Cartons

Today I turned many of my old cartons into pots for my little plants. This way I didn't need to buy pots for the plants, as they aren't ready to go into the ground yet. My daughter would end up pulling them up with the weeds. I was looking for ways I could use the old milk cartons, as I have more that are in my pile. I'm looking for ideas, so all of them are used again. Also have a stack of egg cartons, so ideas are welcome for them.

We do that here. Use milk cartons for the plants. They work good, as we can poke holes in them. What did you plant there?

I have planted flowers in them. In the future they will be going into hanging baskets to really brighten my patio area and add color. One of my biggest problems right now are weeds in my hanging baskets, as was weeding them earlier today. I may end up buying some soil to have future weed free baskets. Thanks for posting.

Great ideas, I use mine for bell peppers. They seem to grow good in milk cartons. Take care there...

It is good when things get reuse like that. While many people focus on recycling, reducing and reusing are far more important steps; recycling materials should be a final step--not a first one.

I agree about recycling, as one of my neighbors likes to talk about how great she is at recycling and her dumpster is full often. I know she could reduce, as yesterday I saw her putting packing peanuts into the dumpster. I had a phone call or would have asked for the packing peanuts. I posted a bag on Free Cycle and the bag was gone in less than an hour. Thanks for posting.

I don't buy milk in cartons, but I have started plants in yogurt cups, newspaper pots and various throwaway containers. One thing I've read for using them is to freeze water in them to put in coolers for camping trips or vacations.
I've never found anything to do with egg cartons (other than tacky "crafts") except try to find someone who keeps chickens and give the cartons to them.

I use to give the cartons to a local neighbor, but now live to far from her. Yes, I have lots of the tacky items that my daughters made in school with egg cartons in my Christmas Boxes. I'm still surprised some of them look great even though were talking over 20 plus years. Thanks for posting.

I will have to go check pin interest, as I'm in the gardening group there, but haven't been on it much. I'll have to visit there more often. Thanks for posting.
