A Discussion About Coincidence

I am back at work on my favourite night shifts... It is almost 1am, the TV is on in the background. there is a science program on about coincidence and chance.
We are fascinated by coincidences - It can lead to a belief in the supernatural or paranormal. Some even believe it not to be chance or coincidence, but FATE
So, rather than go on and try to disprove your beliefs - I will make this interesting and light hearted...
Let me share a coincidence with you.
I have three children. My eldest daughter was born 16th September in 1993, my youngest daughter was born 29th July 1998 and my son was born 19th August 2000. Looking at the dates, nothing stands out. There is no strange sequence to the numbers.
Here is the coincidence....
My eldest daughter's birthday is on a Monday this year
My youngest daughter's birthday is on a Monday this year
And yes, my son's birthday also falls on a Monday this year
My children share the same day of the week for their birthdays.
It does seem to be fantastical that the three children of a family can share the same day of the week for their birthday...

I am sure that this is a math problem, the facts are in the numbers of your kids birthdays. In math I never got past the basics but I am sure there is a rational
result for this happening. To me a coincidence is a chance happening with no logical reason. When ever I hear of one my first thought is we just don't have enough information to explain the reason. If we could see the whole situation we would say, Ah! That's the reason.

Let me give you the odds
7 days in a week
That is a 7/1 chance of having your birthday on any day.
I have 3 children.
What are the odd of all my children having their birthday on the same day of the week?
The equation is 7x7x7=343
That is a 343/1 chance
Not that remote really

I have seen interesting patterns in things like this. I know a family who have 4 children...all sharing the same birthday. My grandson is born on 12/6 and his sister is born on 6/12. I was a teen in the 70's when paranormal and all that stuff were really popular. I have read a ton on it, worked for a medium..you name it. Never found anything concrete but the coincidences are fun.

Another cool story. Three years ago, my daughter had a miscarriage on New Years Eve. Although she was devastated, she did not give up but tried again even though it was her 2nd miscarriage. Soon she was pregnant and we were looking forward to the addition of a new baby boy into the family. She was due Dec. 23rd and we all thought, "what a perfect family Christmas gift!" Well Christmas came and went. She went into labor on New Years eve right around the same time that I ran her to the hospital the previous year. He was born on New Years Day.

Coincidence indeed. My sister and I share a birth day every year. Our dates are two weeks apart but we both celebrate (or at our age quietly weep) the same day of the week. We are twins I think. She was a bit slower coming out though. Took her one year fifty weeks after me...

wow i see what you are saying. they were not born the same date yet they must have been born the same day of the week because their birthdays fall on the same day of the week each year even though its not the same day of the week or date they were born. yes, confusing but hard to explain also. at least i figured out what you are saying. my 2 daughters, 8 yrs apart, were supposed to share the same birthday, but unfortunately my youngest did not want to come out in the world, so she went from august 13th when she was supposed to be born to sept. 6st, when they forced her birth because she was being attacked by my system and it was dangerous for her to stay longer. in fact she was quite sickly when born because of it. we still tease her about not wanting to leave her mom. cause shes still like that with wanting to be around me. lol

I don't find that odd. It just happen to wind up like that. I don't see that as a coincidence at all. It would be odd if they were all born on the same day and month so many years apart. But that seems like you went looking for a coincidence. I never would have tried to figure that out. But as long as this discussion is here, my son was born on Feb. 3rd and he was born at 3:33 in the afternoon and the room number my wife was in in the hospital was 303. Odd? Strange? Coincidence? I don't know. And he was born in 2001.

Hi Rob Wow that is really something to have all three have their birthdays on the same day and a Monday to boot. Well I have two nieces (they are sisters) born 5 years apart on the same day. It really is something to think if it is a coincidence or truly is just fate. Good discussion
