i have been watching this show about people who escaped from religious cults. this fascinates me, because i always wonder what makes people get into a cult. my ex used to be friends with his boss, who also took on the role of religious adviser. he demanded that his workers go to bible study at his house. he denounced formal cistian religion and want to start his own thing. i though that was rather creepy. i also think about my friend josh. he was a jehovah's witness. his head was messed up real bad. he ended up trying to commit suicide at work. have you ever had any experience with a religious cult? please share your experience if it's not to painful.

I see religious cults as something like an experimental belief system. If a belief system should start, it should start this way. Obviously, any belief system would eventually mess up someone's mind since the person was raised with a "default" belief system. If this new belief system conflicts the old one, which it often does, the person will go insane. Then it would now depend on how the person will handle this conflict. I haven't had any cults before because it's not really necessary. Believing in God and Jesus Christ is enough for me, more than enough actually.

There were a couple of cults that used to harass me all the time. I think one were called "presperterians" & the other "Jahovas winesses". The first continually left me feeling like I'd been thumped in the head with a bible. The second kept showing up at our doorstep at odd days & times & trying to teach me about "their" god. Fortunantly once I threatened to sacrafice a few of them they stopped.

Its depend on the cult that they joined in, there are some cult that had a bad effect on the members specially on mental aspect, my uncle is a pastor of Jehovah's witness but i refused for the reason, that i'm already baptize as a Roman Catholic at birth, so i don't find any reason to change my religion to others or cult. I joined some religious organization but i don't see anything wrong, those organization is under Roman Catholic. So i guess it depends on the cult they joined in or rather is depends on mental status of the person.

I think it doesn't matter if you join a cult, want to belong to a clique, community or .. People with the biggest lack of self esteem and people who do feel lonesome/lost are the ones who will start joining a cult. They need it to be equal, to be accepted, to be one with the group. So they will look for something that fits them. A religion, life style or.... Some will wake up, others will stay forever, the biggest part too afraid and brainwashed to think by themselves anymore. I have no experiences with it. According to me it's exaclty the same as most religions do (the worst one we call extremists) already since centuries. I am not the king of person who loves to join the group/clique. It would make me feel very unhappy I just want to be me.
